Pit Stop (1969 Film)
''Pit Stop'' is a 1969 film directed by Jack Hill and starring Brian Donlevy and Richard Davalos. It was the final film for Hollywood veteran Brian Donlevy. Plot Rick, a brash, hustling, opportunistic amateur drag racer, is courted by affluent Grant Willard, who wants him to participate in his burgeoning Figure 8 stock car racing competitions, where the driving pattern guarantees crashes and injuries. Rick quickly starts trying to undermine a popular star of Willard's races, Hawk Sidney, who is prone to over-the-top boasting and taunts. Rick succeeds in defeating him, and wooing away Jolene, a groupie he had been keeping time with. Initially, Hawk reacts violently, destroying Rick's car after a race and beating him up. Figure 8 racing is a type of stock car racing in which automobiles race on an " 8"-shaped track that purposely intersects itself, increasing the risk of collisions. Such contact between the participating vehicles, or at least the risk of such an occurrence, is an intentional part of the sport, with the intent being to damage them over the course of the race. Figure 8 racing is most common and popular in the United States and Canada, and can be seen as the North American equivalent to the European motorsport of banger racing, which also uses modified derelict older-model cars in races where vehicle damage is an integral feature. Crown International Pictures (CIP) was an independent film studio and distribution company formed in 1959 by Newton P. Jacobs. Jack Hill (born January 28, 1933) is an American filmmaker, known for his work in the exploitation genre. He was an early associate of Francis Ford Coppola and Roger Corman, and worked on many films distributed by American International Pictures (AIP) during the 1960s and 1970s.
