Pierre Declercq
Pierre Declercq (May 10, 1938 - September 19, 1981) was a French New Caledonian politician and a noted supporter of New Caledonian independence. Declercq was born in Halluin, Nord, Metropolitan France. He moved to New Caledonia to become a teacher in the 1960s. Later going into politics, he became secretary of the Caledonian Union The Caledonian Union (, UC) is a pro-independence and the oldest political party in New Caledonia. In the latest legislative elections of May 10, 2009, the party won around 11.65% of the popular vote, and 9 out of 54 seats in the Territorial Co .... The President of the Republic met with him and other members of the CU on 19 September 1981. He was assassinated in his house in Nouméa not long after. His killers have never been apprehended. Halluin
Halluin (; nl, Halewijn) is a commune in the Nord department in northern France. Geography It is located at the north of the Métropole Européenne de Lille, on the Belgian border, contiguous with the Belgian town of Menen. Population Transport The Halluin railway station, closed in the 1970s, was situated on the Somain-Halluin Railway. The town is now served by buses of Ilévia. The A22 autoroute links the town to Lille and Belgium. Nouméa () is the capital and largest city of the French special collectivity of New Caledonia and is also the largest francophone city in Oceania.
