Phoenix Prowlers
The Phoenix Prowlers were a professional football team that played in the Women's Football Alliance. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the Prowlers played their home games in nearby Mesa at Mesa Community College. Before joining the WFA in 2009, the Prowlers played two seasons in the National Women's Football Association. Their inaugural season of 2007 saw them finish with a perfect 8–0 regular season record (outscoring opponents 241–0, no points allowed) and winning South Division and Western Conference titles; however, they were upset in the semi-final round of the playoffs, losing to the St. Louis Slam by a score of 33–29. Despite finishing 5–3 in 2008 and second place in the Southern Conference West Division, the Prowlers missed the playoffs (only division winners qualified that year). Women's Football Alliance
The Women's Football Alliance (WFA) is a professional full-contact Women's American football tackle minor league that began play in 2009. It is the largest 11-on-11 football league for women in the world, and the longest running active women's football league in the U.S. Since 2016, the league has operated with three competitive levels: Pro, Division 2 and Division 3. The league is owned and operated by Jeff King and Lisa Gibbons King of Exeter, California. Lisa King is also a wide receiver for the WFA's, Los Angeles Warriors. In addition to operating annual national championship seasons in the United States, the league also operates the WFA International Program which organizes international competitions for its own Team United and Team World against each other and all-star teams from other nations. National Women's Football Association
The National Women's Football Association (NWFA) was a full-contact American football league for women headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. The league was founded by Catherine Masters in 2000, as the two benchmark teams, the Alabama Renegades and the Nashville Dream played each other six times in exhibition games. The opening season was in 2001 featuring ten teams. The NWFA did not officially field any teams for the 2009 season. The NWFA was originally called the National Women's Football League, but changed its name after the 2002 season. The name change came after pressure from the National Football League.
