Phil Putnam
Phillip Jeffrey Putnam (born July 29, 1979) is an American independent singer-songwriter, pianist, and author. He has released eight albums of original music and several EPs and singles. In August 2011 he announced the production of his 9th album on his official website. Early life Putnam was born in Sacramento, CA, and raised in the Sacramento suburb of Fair Oaks. He was the youngest of three children in a single-parent home, his mother and father divorcing when he was six months old. Unlike most professional musicians, he did not begin to seriously develop his musical skills until college. He was bookish a child, highly social, somewhat girlish, and overweight. In media interviews, he has often referred to himself as "the proverbial 'fat kid in dodgeball.'" While there were many indicators during childhood that he was gay, he struggled to accept his sexuality until he was 24, and was 25 when he came out of the closet. In the Winter of 1988, he manifested his first sympto ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

LGBT Music
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT+) music is music that focuses on the experiences of gender and sexual minorities as a product of the broad gay liberation movement. LGBT music spans the entire spectrum of popular music. Lyricism and song content typically express the frustration, anxiety, and hope associated with non-normative sexual and gender identities, offering marginalized groups a vital platform for expression. Recently, popular music has "provided an arena where marginalized voices can be heard and sexual identities shaped, challenged, and renegotiated." Mainstream music has begun to reflect acceptance of LGBT and queer musicianship. Some queer icons are openly queer identifying and have made impactful changes in the world for LGBT people. Others are straight allies that have expressed their support for the community. History In the 1890s, New Orleans began testing different prostitution policies which led to brothels and gay musicians like Tony Jackso ... Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Music appearing on indie labels is often referred to as indie music, or more specifically by genre, such as indie hip-hop. Overview Independent record labels are small companies that produce and distribute records. They are not affiliated with or funded by the three major records labels. According to ... Singer-songwriters From California
A singer-songwriter is a musician who writes, composes, and performs their own musical material, including lyrics and melodies. In the United States, the category is built on the folk-acoustic tradition, although this role has transmuted through different eras of popular music. Singer-songwriters often provide the sole accompaniment to an entire composition or song, typically using a guitar or piano. In the early 21st century, digital production tools such as GarageBand began to be used by singer-songwriters to compose their music. Definition and usage The label "singer-songwriter" (or "song-writer/singer") is used by record labels and critics to define popular-music artists who write and perform their own material, which is often self-accompanied - generally on acoustic guitar or piano. Such an artist performs the roles of composer, lyricist, vocalist, sometimes instrumentalist, and often self-manager. According to AllMusic, singer-songwriters' lyrics are often pe ... People From Fair Oaks, California
A person ( : people) is a being that has certain capacities or attributes such as reason, morality, consciousness or self-consciousness, and being a part of a culturally established form of social relations such as kinship, ownership of property, or legal responsibility. The defining features of personhood and, consequently, what makes a person count as a person, differ widely among cultures and contexts. In addition to the question of personhood, of what makes a being count as a person to begin with, there are further questions about personal identity and self: both about what makes any particular person that particular person instead of another, and about what makes a person at one time the same person as they were or will be at another time despite any intervening changes. The plural form "people" is often used to refer to an entire nation or ethnic group (as in "a people"), and this was the original meaning of the word; it subsequently acquired its use as a plural form of p ...
