Minden
Minden () is a middle-sized town in the very north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the largest town in population between Bielefeld and Hanover. It is the capital of the district () of Minden-Lübbecke, situated in the cultural region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe (OWL) and the administrative Detmold (region), region of Detmold. Fred Walsen
Fred Walsen (June14, 1841February15, 1906) was a banker, businessman, landowner and politician from Colorado, U.S. The city of Walsenburg, Colorado is named for him, and he was the city's first mayor. He served as the fifth treasurer of the state of Colorado, from 1883 to 1885. Early life Henrich Anton Fredrich Walsen was born in Petershagen, Germany on June 14, 1841. When he turned 18, he emigrated to the United States, sailing from Germany to New Orleans. From there, he traveled up the Mississippi River to St. Louis and opened a cigar shop there. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War, Walsen enlisted in the Union Army on April 12, 1861, joining the Missouri Volunteer Militia, and later, the Missouri National Guard. In 1864, he headed west and settled in Fort Garland, Colorado. In Fort Garland, he worked as a store clerk, and by 1867 he had become a part-owner of the store. () is a circular, long-distance, cycle route in the German district of Minden-Lübbecke and its neighbouring areas in North Rhine-Westphalia. The route is laid out in such a way as to take in 43 historic mills along a circular route of about 320 kilometres. Running along largely quiet country roads, the Westphalian Mill Route takes cyclists through a cultural landscape dominated by the Wiehen Hills, Wiehen and Wesergebirge, Weser Hills, the North German Plain and the River Weser. As increasing numbers of tourists have used the network of cycleways, tourist accommodation and restaurants have been established on the main routes. Henry Clay Brockmeyer
Henry Clay Brockmeyer (born Heinrich Conrad Brokmeyer, August 12, 1826 near Petershagen, Prussia – July 26, 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri) was a German-American poet, philosopher, and politician. Early life Brockmeyer was born Heinrich Conrad Brokmeyer in Westphalia, near Petershagen, to a well-to-do family. On his mother's side he was a nephew of Friedrich Wilhelm von Bismarck, a Napoleonic-era general and diplomat in Württemberg. He emigrated to the United States at the age of sixteen, reputedly after his religious mother burned his copy of Goethe's poems. Brockmeyer arrived in St. Louis around age 20 and worked in a tannery and in other trades. He built a prosperous shoe-making business in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi and sold it when his health declined. He attended classes at Kentucky's Georgetown College for two years, but was threatened with expulsion over religious differences and withdrew, attending next Brown University, where he again attended classes for several years ... Johann Karl Ludwig Gieseler, KH (3 March 1792 – 8 July 1854) was a Protestant German church historian. Biography He was born at Petershagen, near Minden, where his father, Georg Christof Friedrich, was preacher. In his tenth year he entered the orphanage at Halle, from which he duly passed to the university, his studies being interrupted in October 1813 by a period of military service, during which he was enrolled as a volunteer in a regiment of chasseurs. On the conclusion of peace (1815) he returned to Halle, and, having in 1817 taken his degree in philosophy, he became assistant head (Conrector) of the Minden gymnasium, and in 1818 was appointed director of the gymnasium at Cleves. Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Herbst (1 November 1743 – 5 November 1807) was a German natural history, naturalist and entomologist from Petershagen, Minden-Ravensberg. He served as a chaplain in the Prussian army. His marriage in Berlin, 1770, with Euphrosyne Luise Sophie (1742–1805), daughter of the Prussian ''Hofrat'' Libert Waldschmidt, seems to have been childless. He was the joint editor, with Carl Gustav Jablonsky, of ''Naturgeschichte der in- und ausländischen Insekten'' (1785–1806, 10 volumes), which was one of the first attempts at a complete survey of the order Coleoptera.
