Periya Mariamman Temple
Periya Mariamman Temple (Tamil:பெரிய மாரியம்மன் திருக்கோயில்) is located near Panneer Selvam Park, opposite to Erode Corporation Building in the city of Erode, Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to Mariamman, the Hindu Goddess. Kongu Cholas built the temple 1200 years ago. Erode
Erode (; īrōṭu), is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on the banks of the Kaveri river and is surrounded by the Western Ghats. Erode is the seventh largest urban agglomeration in Tamil Nadu. It is the administrative capital of Erode district and is administered by the Erode Municipal Corporation which was established in 2008. The region was ruled by the Cheras during the Sangam period between the 1st and the 4th centuries CE. The medieval Cholas conquered the region in the 10th century CE. Panneerselvam Park or P.S. Park is a commercial and business locality in the city of Erode in Tamil Nadu, India. History In the early 19th century, this locality has celebrated the presence of numerous trees and plantations like a Garden. It was called as Wells Park by the name of ''Wells'' the then Municipal Chairman of Erode Municipal Council. In 1940, it has been renamed as Panneerselvam Park by Periyar E. V. Ramasamy in memory of the Justice Party leader Rao Bahadur Sir A. T. Panneerselvam. Mariamman
Mariamman, often abbreviated to Amman (), is a Hindu Dravidian folk religion List of rain deities, goddess of weather, predominantly venerated in the rural areas of South India. Her festivals are held during the late summer/early autumn season of Ādi throughout Tamil Nadu and the Deccan region, the largest being the ''Ādi Thiruviḻa''. Municipal Corporation Building, Erode
The Municipal Corporation Buildings, Erode is the seat of the Erode Municipal Corporation and is situated near Panneer selvam Park, in the middle of Erode city, Tamil Nadu, India. The building Erode Municipal Council came into existence in 1872 and was elevated to Special Grade during the year 1980 and upgraded as a Municipal Corporation with effect from the very first of the year 2008. Starting from the earlier administration of the City, this building is the place for council that is being elected. It is a four storeyed building near PS Park in normal Indian style architecture. Pongal (festival)
Pongal is a multi-day Hindu harvest festival celebrated by Tamils. The festival is celebrated over three or four days with Bhogi, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal and Kaanum Pongal, beginning on the last day of the Tamil calendar month of Margazhi, and observed on consecutive days. Thai Pongal is observed on the first day of the Tamil calendar month of Thai and usually falls on 14 or 15 January in the Gregorian calendar. Temple Car
Temple cars or Temple chariots are used to carry representations of Hindu deities around the streets of the temple on festival days. These chariots are generally manually pulled by the devotees of the deity. As of 2004, the Indian state Tamil Nadu had 515 wooden carts, 79 of which needed repairs. Annamalaiyar Temple, Tiruvannamalai, Chidambaram Natarajar Temple are among the temples that possess these huge wooden chariots for regular processions.
