The Penguin Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Penguin, Tasmania. It was founded in 1890. Penguin currently competes in the North West Football League (NWFL), previously known as the "Northern Tasmanian Football League". It previously competed in the North West Football Union (NWFU). Luke Russell
Luke Russell is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Penguin Football Club in the Tasmanian North West Football League (NWFL). Formerly a player in the Australian Football League (AFL), he was drafted by Gold Coast Football Club as an underage player from Burnie Dockers. He made his AFL debut against in round 4 of the 2011 season. Early life Luke Russell was born in Burnie, Tasmania and grew up playing Basketball. He represented Tasmania at the state level in Basketball and would be chosen in the Australian u19 development squad in 2007. Due to many injuries he would give up playing Basketball in 2008 and focus on Australian rules football solely. Anthony Koutoufides (born 18 January 1973), also known by his nickname of Kouta, is a retired Australian rules footballer with the Carlton Football Club. Considered by many as one of the most powerful and athletic players of all-time, he played in almost every position and was often called the prototype of the modern footballer. Of Greek and Italian descent, Koutoufides has been an Australian celebrity, making numerous television appearances both during and after his football career. Michael Gale (born 1966) is a former Australian rules football player who played in the VFL/AFL between 1985 and 1993 for the Fitzroy Football Club and then from 1994 to 1998 for the Richmond Football Club. Tom Fitzmaurice
Thomas Joseph Cullinan Fitzmaurice (7 July 1898 – 25 December 1977) was an Australian rules footballer in the (then) Victorian Football League (VFL). Football A brilliant centre-half-back, he commenced his career with Essendon Football Club 1918. Transferred to Sydney in 1921 with his employment, Fitzmaurice played that season in the local competition and captained New South Wales against Victoria and Tasmania. He rejoined Essendon in 1922 and later formed part of their very successful 1923 and 1924 premiership teams. In the famous Essendon "mosquito fleet" (so called because of the half-dozen players 168 cm or under), Fitzmaurice was the tallest member of the side at 189 cm. Justin Plapp
Justin Plapp (born 22 June 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Justin was born in Penguin, Tasmania and attended Penguin High School. Plapp caught the attention of AFL clubs after kicking 98 goals with the Burnie Dockers in 1996, which was the most by a player in the TFL Statewide League that year. He was recruited by Richmond in the draft, and played in Richmond's reserves premiership in 1997. He started his senior AFL career in 1998 with two good performances at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, three goals on debut against Fremantle and five more in a win over Carlton the following weekend. Tim Evans (born 13 August 1953) is a former Australian rules football player who played for Port Adelaide in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) and in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Fred Wooller
Fred Wooller (born 21 October 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL. Football Recruited from Bacchus Marsh, Wooller started his career as a full forward and topped Geelong's goalkicking with 56 goals in 1957, his tally being the equal second highest in the league for that season. He was rewarded with selection in the interstate carnival where he represented Victoria. He was the Geelong's leading goalkicker again in 1959 as well as in 1960, where he played at centre half forward and won the Carji Greeves Medal for the club's best and fairest. Michael O'Loughlin
Michael Kevin O'Loughlin (born 20 February 1977) is a former professional Australian rules footballer, who played his entire Australian Football League career with the Sydney Swans. O'Loughlin was named a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century. He was the third player with Indigenous heritage to play 300 AFL games. He twice achieved All-Australian selection, played for Australia twice in the International Rules Series, and was a Fos Williams Medallist as best player for South Australia in State of Origin. Lenny Hayes
Lenny Hayes (born 14 January 1980) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 1999 to 2014. He is currently an assistant coach at the St Kilda Football Club. Growing up in Sydney, Hayes played TAC Cup football for the NSW/ACT Rams. He was recruited by St Kilda with the 11th pick in the 1998 National Draft and made his senior debut in round five of the 1999 season. He was nominated for the AFL Rising Star Award later in the year as well.
