Pelvicachromis
''Pelvicachromis'' is a genus of small (), brightly coloured cichlids from tropical West Africa and Central Africa. They typically inhabit soft, acidic water ( pH 5.6 – 6.9). All species form monogamous pairs and use caves as spawning sites. Most are easily spawned in captivity with adequate water quality. Species There are currently 11 recognized species in this genus: * ''Pelvicachromis drachenfelsi'' Lamboj, Bartel & dell’Ampio, 2014 * '' Pelvicachromis humilis'' Boulenger, 1916 * ''Pelvicachromis kribensis'' Boulenger, 1911 * '' Pelvicachromis pulcher'' Boulenger, 1901 (Rainbow Kribensis) * '' Pelvicachromis roloffi'' Thys van den Audenaerde, 1968 * '' Pelvicachromis rubrolabiatus'' Lamboj, 2004 * '' Pelvicachromis sacrimontis'' Paulo, 1977 (Often mislabelled as ''P. pulcher'') * '' Pelvicachromis signatus'' Lamboj, 2004 * '' Pelvicachromis silviae'' Lamboj, 2013 * '' Pelvicachromis subocellatus'' Günther, 1872 * ''Pelvicachromis taeniatus'' Boulenger, 1901 ... Pelvicachromis Pulcher
''Pelvicachromis pulcher'' is a freshwater fish of the cichlid family, endemic to Nigeria and Cameroon. It is popular amongst aquarium hobbyists, and is most commonly sold under the name kribensis, although it has other common names, including various derivatives and color morphs of the kribensis: krib, common krib, red krib, super-red krib and rainbow krib, along with rainbow cichlid and purple cichlid. Description In the wild, male ''P. pulcher'' grow to a maximum length of approximately and a maximum weight of . Females are smaller and deeper bodied, growing to a maximum length of and a maximum weight of . Both sexes have a dark longitudinal stripe that runs from the caudal fin to the mouth and pink to red abdomens, the intensity of which changes during courtship and breeding. The dorsal and caudal fins also may bear gold-ringed eye spots or ocelli. Males show colour polymorphisms in some populations collected at single localities. Juveniles are monomorphic until appro ... Pelvicachromis Sacrimontis
''Pelvicachromis sacrimontis'' is a Fresh water, freshwater fish of the cichlid family known only from a small area of southeastern Nigeria. Currently Fishbase considers this Binomial nomenclature, binomial to be a junior synonym of Pelvicachromis pulcher, ''P. pulcher'' and, it was also known as ''Pelvicachromis camerunensis'', ''P. pulcher'' "form B" or ''P. ''sp.'' aff. pulcher'' but some authorities now consider it to be a valid species. It is occasionally available in the tropical fish trade as "giant krib" and there are three colour Polymorphism (biology), morphs – red, green and yellow. And are the most colorful of the Pelvicachromis family. Today its popularity increases due to more order demands by aquarium hobbyists. Biology General ''P. sacrimontis'' grows to a length of approximately with adult males some 15–25% larger than females. Sexual dimorphism and dichromatism is well developed. The body is generally brown and darker above than below. A broad dark mid ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Pelvicachromis Taeniatus
''Pelvicachromis taeniatus'' is a species of cichlid from Benin and Nigeria that is occasionally kept as an aquarium fish. It is native to the soft-water rivers. This species can reach a length of SL. It is known to exist in a variety of geographically restricted varieties distinguished by differences in coloration. These are often given names such as "Nigerian red" or "Moliwe" that refer to the places where each variety is collected. The species ''P. taeniatus'' formerly included populations from Cameroon. A 2014 study by Lamboj, Bartel & dell’Ampio found that the Cameroon populations were a different species from the Nigeria populations, and identified the Cameroon populations as belonging to the species '' Pelvicachromis kribensis'' and '' Pelvicachromis drachenfelsi''. Lamboj, Bartel & dell’Ampio found that ''P. kribensis'', ''P. drachenfelsi'' and ''P. taeniatus'' are closely related and form a clade within the genus ''Pelvicachromis'', which they described as the "' ... Pelvicachromis Drachenfelsi
''Pelvicachromis drachenfelsi'' is a freshwater fish of the cichlid family, endemic to the Wouri River system near the town of Yabassi in Cameroon. Taxonomy Specimens from this locality were originally believed to be the same species as ''Pelvicachromis taeniatus'' with small regional variations in colour but a study by Lamboj, Bartel & dell’Ampio in 2014 would show that it was genetically separate from ''P. taeniatus'' and shared a closer common ancestor to ''Pelvicachromis kribensis''. The three distinctly described species of ''P. taeniatus'', ''P. kribensis,'' and ''P. drachenfelsi'' all share a clade together and are referred to as the ''P. taeniatus'' group. The specific name Specific name may refer to: * in Database management systems, a system-assigned name that is unique within a particular database In taxonomy, either of these two meanings, each with its own set of rules: * Specific name (botany), the two-part (bino ... was bestowed to German aquarist Ernst-Otto von ... Pelvicachromis Silviae
''Pelvicachromis silviae'' is a species of cichlid in the genus ''Pelvicachromis''. It is found in the Niger River, in the same region as congeners '' Pelvicachromis pulcher'' and ''Pelvicachromis taeniatus''. It was described by Anton Lamboj in 2013. Prior to its formal description it was relatively common in the aquarium fish hobby, denoted as either a subspecies of ''Pelvicachromis subocellatus'' or as an undescribed species similar to ''P. subocelatus'', ''Pelvicachromis sp. aff. subocellatus.'' Lamboj concurs that it is more closely related to ''P. subocellatus'' than to other ''Pelvocachromis'' species and regards it as part of the ''P. subocellatus'' group within the genus ''Pelvicachromis''. Lamboj named ''P. silviae'' after his wife Silvia, to thank her for supporting his scientific work. Although similar in appearance to ''P. subocellatus'' and the more common ''P. pulcher'', it has a deeper body than either species. The main body color is pale or yellowish brown, ...
