Pelobacter Acetylenicus
''Pelobacter acetylenicus'' is a strictly anaerobic Gram-negative rod-shaped non-sporeforming bacterium of the genus '' Pelobacter''. It was isolated from marine and freshwater sediments and can use acetylene (ethyne) as sole source of carbon and energy. Metabolism ''P. acetylenicus'' can grow on acetylene, acetoin, ethanolamine, choline, propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol), or glycerol, although the latter two support growth only in the presence of small amounts of acetate. ''P. acetylenicus'' ferments substrates by disproportionation to acetate and ethanol or the respective higher acids and alcohols. Genome The genomes of several strains have been sequenced. The genome of ''P. acetylenicus'' strain DSM 3247 was assembled into a 3,176,363-bp circular chromosome while strain DSM 3246 has a circular chromosome of 3,192,352-bp. Annotation of DSM 3246 identified 2,774 protein-coding genes, 16 rRNAs, 53 tRNAs, five noncoding RNAs, and 132 pseudogene Pseudogenes are nonfu ... Pelobacter Acidigallici
''Pelobacter acidigallici'' is the type species in the bacterial genus '' Pelobacter''. ''P. acidigallici'' is able to degrade trihydroxybenzenes. The enzyme pyrogallol hydroxytransferase uses 1,2,3,5-tetrahydroxybenzene and 1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene (pyrogallol), whereas its two products are 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (phloroglucinol) and 1,2,3,5-tetrahydroxybenzene 1,2,3,5-Tetrahydroxybenzene is a benzenetetrol. Norbert Pfennig
Norbert Pfennig (born 8 July 1925 in Kassel — died 11 February 2008 in Überlingen) was a German microbiologist. Norbert Pfennig described with Bernhard Schink '' Pelobacter acidigallici'', a bacterial species in the genus '' Pelobacter''. ''P. acidigallici'' is able to degrade trihydroxybenzenes The trihydroxybenzenes (or benzenetriols) are organic compounds with the formula C6H3(OH)3. Also classified as polyphenols, they feature three hydroxyl groups substituted onto a benzene ring. They are white solids with modest solubility in water. .... Bacteria
Bacteria (; singular: bacterium) are ubiquitous, mostly free-living organisms often consisting of one biological cell. They constitute a large domain of prokaryotic microorganisms. Typically a few micrometres in length, bacteria were among the first life forms to appear on Earth, and are present in most of its habitats. Bacteria inhabit soil, water, acidic hot springs, radioactive waste, and the deep biosphere of Earth's crust. Bacteria are vital in many stages of the nutrient cycle by recycling nutrients such as the fixation of nitrogen from the atmosphere. The nutrient cycle includes the decomposition of dead bodies; bacteria are responsible for the putrefaction stage in this process. In the biological communities surrounding hydrothermal vents and cold seeps, extremophile bacteria provide the nutrients needed to sustain life by converting dissolved compounds, such as hydrogen sulphide and methane, to energy. Bacteria also live in symbiotic and parasitic re ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
