Pearl Buck
Pearl Comfort Sydenstricker Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973) was an American writer and novelist. She is best known for ''The Good Earth'', the best-selling novel in the United States in 1931 and 1932 and which won her the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel, Pulitzer Prize in 1932. In 1938, Buck became the first American woman to win the 1938 Nobel Prize in Literature, Nobel Prize in Literature "for her rich and truly epic descriptions of Rural society in China, peasant life in China" and for her "masterpieces", two memoir-biographies of her missionary parents. Buck was born in West Virginia, but in October 1892, her parents took their 4-month-old baby to China. Hillsboro, West Virginia
Hillsboro is a town in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, Pocahontas County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 232 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. History Hillsboro was named for pioneer John (Richard) Hill, from North Carolina, who built a log cabin near what is now Lobelia, West Virginia, Lobelia. Mount Lu
Mount Lu or Lushan ( zh, s=庐山, t=, p=Lúshān, Gan: Lu-san) is a mountain situated in Jiujiang, China. It was also known as Kuanglu () in ancient times. The mountain and its immediate area are officially designated as the Lushan National Park, and it is one of the most renowned mountains in the country. A Christian mission is an organized effort to carry on evangelism, in the name of the Christian faith. Absalom Andrew Sydenstricker (, 1852–1931) was an American Presbyterian missionary to China from 1880 to 1931. The Sydenstricker log house at what later became the Pearl S. Buck Birthplace in Hillsboro, West Virginia, was Absalom's early childhood home. He was of German descent. His daughter, Pearl S. Buck, became an award-winning author.
