Paula Craig
Paula Craig Order of the British Empire (MBE), MBE (born 1963) is a British former detective, cyclist, former runner, paratriathlete and aspiring Channel swimmer. After she became paraplegic she continued in her career rising to the rank of inspector. She competed in the London Marathon and took part in a relay swim of the English Channel. Life Craig was born in 1963 to Stan and Phyllis in the Welsh port of Fishguard, where she was raised. She was a keen triathlete. She ran the London Marathon in under three hours. In 2001, Craig had been a police officer with the Metropolitan Police for 15 years and was living in Hemel Hempstead. While training for the Triathlete World Championship, she was knocked off her bicycle by a car on the Redbourne Road (A5183 road, A5183). She became paraplegic as her spinal cord was severed. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding valuable service in a wide range of useful activities. Para triathlon is a variant of the triathlon for athletes with a physical disability. The sport is governed by World Triathlon (TRI; formerly known as the International Triathlon Union or ITU), and was first held as a Paralympic event at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At events sanctioned by World Triathlon, athletes compete over a para triathlon sprint distance event with a 750m swim, 20km cycle using handcycles, bicycles or tandem bicycles with a guide and a 5km wheelchair or running race. Carys Davina Grey-Thompson, Baroness Grey-Thompson, ( Grey; born 26 July 1969), known as Tanni Grey-Thompson, is a Welsh life peeress, television presenter and former wheelchair racer. Athletic career Grey-Thompson started wheelchair racing at the age of 13 and made her Paralympic debut for Wales at 15, in the 100m at the Junior National Games in 1984. She followed this up by winning the National Junior title in her last year as a junior. Her international career began at the age of 19 in 1988 in Seoul, where she won a bronze medal in the 400m.
