Paul Hilmar Jensen
Paul Hilmar Jensen (28 April 1930 – 17 July 2004), was a Norwegian philatelist whose collections often won gold at philatelic shows, and whose work in community service in the field of philately was recognized by King Harald V of Norway. Collecting interests Jensen had wide knowledge of the entire field of philately but specialized in the collection and study of postage stamps and postal history of certain countries, especially Czechoslovakia, Cook Islands, Saudi Arabia, and Norway. His exhibits at various stamp shows generally won the gold prize. Philatelic activity Jensen was a founder and the first president of the ''Norwegian Postal History Society'', served as president of the ''Norwegian Philatelic Federation'' and the ''FIP Postal History Commission''. The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a Philately, philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921 to honour those who have advanced philately through research, expertise, or service. The Roll consists of five pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names. New honorees continue to be added annually. Selection of the signatories Those who have assisted the development of philately through their research, expertise or giving their time can be candidates to sign the Roll if they are sponsored by one of the existing signatories. Philately Of Norway
Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. While closely associated with stamp collecting and the study of postage, it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin (philatelist), Georges Herpin in 1864.
