Patto
Patto were an English rock band, formed in London in 1970. Founded by vocalist Mike Patto, their lineup was taken from Timebox, consisting of vocalist Patto, guitarist and vibraphone player Ollie Halsall, bassist Clive Griffiths and drummer John Halsey. Early days and singles Timebox developed from a complicated pedigree that included members of The Bo Street Runners, Patto's People and Chicago Blue Line. This soul psych pop combo made two singles for Pye's label Piccadilly before signing to Decca's Deram in 1967. They also recorded five singles for Deram between 1967 and 1969 and appeared on BBC radio shows such as ''Noise at Nine'', '' Stuart Henry on Sunday'' and Jimmy Young. Mike Patto
Mike Patto (born Michael Thomas McCarthy, 22 September 1942 – 4 March 1979) was an English musician, who was primarily notable as lead singer for Spooky Tooth, Patto and Boxer. Background Patto was born in Cirencester, England, and first became vocalist and frontman for The Bo Street Runners, who won a TV band competition ''Ready Steady Win'' during 1964. He was a member of Timebox, his own band Patto, and Dick and the Firemen. In 1974, Patto joined Spooky Tooth as vocalist and keyboard player. He was also a founding member of the rock band Boxer. Career He was the lead singer of the group Chicago Line aka The Chicago Line Blues Band. Other musicians included Tim Hinkley on keyboards, Ivan Zagni on guitar, Mike Fellana on trumpet, Louis Cennamo on bass and Viv Prince on drums. Ollie Halsall
Peter John "Ollie" Halsall (14 March 1949 – 29 May 1992) was an English guitarist, songwriter, and singer, best known for his role in the Rutles, the bands Patto, Timebox (band), Timebox, and Boxer (band), Boxer, and for his contribution to the music of Kevin Ayers. He is also notable as one of the few players of the vibraphone in rock music. He was known by his childhood nickname "Olly" or "Ollie" which was simply a corruption of his surname. The Ollie Halsall Archive was established in 1998, with the aim of documenting and promoting his work. John Halsey (musician)
John Halsey (born 23 February 1945) is an English rock drummer, best known for his appearance in the television film '' All You Need is Cash'' (1978) as Barrington Womble ("Barry Wom") of The Rutles. Previous to this he had played with fellow future Rutle Neil Innes's band Fatso and appeared with them in the BBC Television comedy series, '' Rutland Weekend Television'', fronted by a third Rutle, Eric Idle. He joined the London rhythm and blues band Felder's Orioles in 1965, who released four singles on the Piccadilly Records label. Boxer (band)
Boxer were a rock band formed by singer and keyboardist Mike Patto and guitarist Ollie Halsall in 1975. They signed to Virgin and three albums followed, '' Below the Belt'' (1975), '' Absolutely'' (1977) and '' Bloodletting'' (1979), which also featured Bobby Tench and Boz Burrell. The band dissolved after ''Absolutely'' when Patto became ill. The band was managed by Nigel Thomas who secured a five-album deal over five years with CBS, reputed to have been worth £1.2million, and was never fully executed due to Patto's death on 4 March 1979. Timebox was an English 1960s psychedelic pop band. They formed in October 1965, in Southport, Lancashire. Career Originally named 'The Take 5', they formed in 1965 in Southport, with the following members: * Ollie Halsall – vibraphone, guitar * Chris Holmes – piano, organ * Kevan Fogarty – lead guitar and vocals * Clive Griffiths – bass * Geoff Dean – drums The band turned professional and went to London in October 1966. The Bo Street Runners
The Bo Street Runners were an English R&B band formed in Harrow, England, during 1964. The band released four singles and an extended play record. They gained prominence in the United Kingdom after winning the ''Ready Steady Win!'' band contest and included future Fleetwood Mac drummer, Mick Fleetwood and vocalist Mike Patto. Early days The band was formed in 1963 as The Roadrunners, but changed their name to The Bo Street Runners when it was discovered that another British group was already recording with the name. Muff Winwood
Mervyn "Muff" Winwood (born 15 June 1943, Erdington, Birmingham, England) is an English songwriter and record producer. The elder brother of Steve Winwood, both were members of The Spencer Davis Group in the 1960s, in which Muff played bass guitar. Following his departure from the group he became an A&R executive and record producer. Early life Winwood's father, Lawrence, was a foundryman by trade, who also played tenor saxophone in dance bands and had a collection of jazz and blues records. Winwood attended Cranbourne Road Primary School and the new Great Barr School (one of the first comprehensive schools) and was a choir boy at St John's Church in the Perry Barr neighborhood of Birmingham. Stuart Henry (24 February 1942 – 24 November 1995) was a Scottish disc jockey on pirate radio station Radio Scotland from January 1966 to September 1967.
