Patouillardinaceae
''Patouillardina'' is a genus of fungi in the order Auriculariales. The type and only species, ''P. cinerea'', forms waxy, effused, corticioid basidiocarps (fruit bodies) with basidia that are diagonally septate. The species is presumed to be saprotrophic, growing on dead wood. It was originally described from Brazil, but appears to be pantropical, having also been recorded from Brunei, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Tahiti. The ascomycete genus ''Patouillardina'' G. Arnaud is an illegitimate later homonym. Auriculariales
The Auriculariales are an order of fungi in the class Agaricomycetes. Species within the order were formerly referred to the " heterobasidiomycetes" or "jelly fungi", since many have gelatinous basidiocarps (fruit bodies) that produce spores on septate basidia. Around 200 species are known worldwide, placed in six or more families, though the status of these families is currently uncertain. All species in the Auriculariales are believed to be saprotrophic, most growing on dead wood. Fruit bodies of several '' Auricularia'' species are cultivated for food on a commercial scale, especially in China. Taxonomy History The order was established in 1889 by German mycologist Joseph Schröter to accommodate species of fungi having "auricularioid" basidia (more or less cylindrical basidia with lateral septa), including many of the rusts and smuts. Giacomo Bresadola ( Mezzana, Trento; often given as Giacopo) 14 February 1847 – Trento 9 June 1929) was an eminent Italian mycologist. Fungi he named include the deadly '' Lepiota helveola'' and ''Inocybe patouillardii'', though the latter is now known as '' Inosperma erubescens'' as this latter description predated Bresadola's by a year. He was a founding member of the ''Société mycologique de France'' (Mycology Society of France). Life Bresadola was born in 1847 into a farming family in Trent, then an Austrian possession. Narcisse Théophile Patouillard (2 July 1854 – 30 March 1926) was a French pharmacist and mycologist. He was born in Macornay, a town in the department of Jura (department), Jura.
