Palestine Expo
Palestine Expo is an exhibition about Palestinian culture, food, art and entertainment organised by the UK-based NGO Friends of Al-Aqsa(FOA). This year, 2019, it will be held in Olympia, London, UK on the 6th and 7th of July, 2019. The organiser claim it to be bigger and better than the first one. The event was first held in July, 2017 and was spread over five stories in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, and expected to draw around 10,000 visitors. The event includes art galleries, comedy acts, augmented reality tours of Palestinian landmarks, discussion panels, and talks from people such as John Pilger, Miko Peled and Ilan Pappe. It is organised by Friends of Al-Aqsa, a non-profit based in the UK. In the weeks leading up to the exhibition, there were concerns about a possible ban on the event. Queen Elizabeth II Centre
The Queen Elizabeth II Centre is a conference facility located in the City of Westminster, London, close to the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Central Hall Westminster and Parliament Square. History The site now occupied by the Queen Elizabeth II Centre was previously occupied by several buildings. At the northern end of the site were the headquarters of the Stationery Office, which had originally been the "Parliamentary Mews" built in 1825 by Decimus Burton and converted from 1853 to 1855. The southern side was occupied by the Westminster Hospital, built by W & H W Inwood from 1831 to 1834, and expanded later that century and again in 1924. John Pilger
John Richard Pilger (; born 9 October 1939) is an Australian journalist, writer, scholar, and documentary filmmaker. He has been mainly based in Britain since 1962. He was also once visiting professor at Cornell University in New York. Pilger is a strong critic of American, Australian, and British foreign policy, which he considers to be driven by an imperialist and colonialist agenda. Pilger has also criticised his native country's treatment of Indigenous Australians. He first drew international attention for his reports on the Cambodian genocide. His career as a documentary film maker began with ''The Quiet Mutiny'' (1970), made during one of his visits to Vietnam, and has continued with over 50 documentaries since. Miko Peled
Miko Peled (born 1961) is an Israeli-American activist, author, and karate instructor. He is author of the books ''The General’s Son: The Journey of an Israeli in Palestine'' and ''Injustice: The Story of the Holy Land Foundation Five''. He is also an international speaker. Early life Born in Jerusalem in 1961, Peled grew up in Motza Illit to a prominent Zionist family; his grandfather, Avraham Katsnelson, signed Israel’s Declaration of Independence. His father, Mattityahu Peled, fought in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, and served as a general in the Six-Day War of 1967; later, after the Israeli cabinet ignored his investigation of a 1967 alleged Israeli war crime, he became an advocate for an Israeli dialogue with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Ilan Pappé
Ilan Pappé ( he, אילן פפה, ; born 1954) is an expatriate Israeli historian and socialist activist. He is a professor with the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, director of the university's European Centre for Palestine Studies, and co-director of the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. Pappé was born in Haifa, Israel. Prior to coming to the UK, he was a senior lecturer in political science at the University of Haifa (1984–2007) and chair of the Emil Touma Institute for Palestinian and Israeli Studies in Haifa (2000–2008).
