The snowy sheathbill (''Chionis albus''), also known as the greater sheathbill, pale-faced sheathbill, and paddy, is one of two species of sheathbill. It is usually found on the ground. It is the only land bird native to the Antarctic continent. Taxonomy The snowy sheathbill was formally described in 1789 by the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin in his revised and expanded edition of Carl Linnaeus's ''Systema Naturae''. He placed it in a new genus ''Vaginalis'' and coined the binomial name ''Vaginalis alba''. Gmelin based his description on the "white sheath-bill" that had been described and illustrated in 1785 by the English ornithologist John Latham in his ''A General Synopsis of Birds ''. Paddy Dingle (also Kirk) is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Dominic Brunt. Paddy Mail
Paddy mails were workmen's trains operated by companies in Britain to transport workers from their "shanty villages" to their place of work or between the work sites. Originally they were operated by railway contractors on temporary tracks laid to remove spoil from their workings. Many " navvies" were of Irish origin, hence the name given to the trains (see: Paddy). Once the main line was built, the "Paddy mail" name passed to the workmen's specials, which in many cases were operated along the main line railways and sometimes operated by the main line companies to an exchange point where the trains were taken over by the industrial company. In a time before the provision of pit-head baths it was illegal to travel in a normal service train in working clothes, so special trains were provided, usually of the railway company's most ancient coaches. Paddy is a brand of blended Irish whiskey produced by the Sazerac Company. As of 2016, Paddy is the fourth largest-selling Irish whiskey in the World. History The Cork Distilleries Company was founded in 1867 to merge four existing distilleries in Cork city (the North Mall, the Green, Watercourse Road, and Daly's) under the control of one group. A fifth distillery, the Old Midleton Distillery, joined the group soon after in 1868. In 1882, the company hired a young Corkman called Paddy Flaherty as a salesman. Flaherty travelled the pubs of Cork marketing the company's unwieldy named ''"Cork Distilleries Company Old Irish Whiskey"''.
