Overstreet Mall
The Overstreet Mall is a series of pedestrian bridges in Uptown Charlotte. Proposed in 1971 and completed around 1977, the design was based on the design of the Milan Galleria and the Montreal Place Ville-Maria. The mall has about of walkways and bridges that connect various buildings between Three Wells Fargo Center and Truist Center. Rodney Little of Little & Co. said that in 1975, based on a Minneapolis design, was expected to be a big success as concern began about retailers moving to the suburbs. For this reason, Southern National Center did not face a major street, but was intended to be part of a network of bridges between office buildings and major stores such as Belk and Dillard's, Ivey's. BB&T Center
200 South College (formerly BB&T Center) is a high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. Completed in 1975, it consists of 22 floors, a 11-story parking garage, and on the second floor it is connected to neighboring buildings via skybridges, as part of the Overstreet Mall. History The idea of Southern National Bank creating the building was first announced in December 1970. Earlier in the year Southern National had acquired Bank of Charlotte which gave them 4 100-year buildings on South Tryon. The bank undertook as $300,000 renovation of one of these buildings. However, the renovation was abandoned when the contractor found that the old brick turned to powder when it was touched. Southern National determined that none of the 4 buildings could be renovated. Two Wells Fargo Center
Two Wells Fargo Center is a high rise in Charlotte, North Carolina. Completed in 1971. It is currently the 14th tallest building in Charlotte. The building consists of 32 floors, an atrium, plaza, seven-story parking garage, and is connected to neighboring buildings via skybridges, as part of the Overstreet Mall. History The building was designed by LaBella Associates, formerly known as Pease Engineering and Architecture, with David Julian Moore was the architect on-site functioning as construction administrator. When completed, the 32-story building was called Jefferson First Union Tower. When it was completed it became the tallest building in North Carolina, overtaking the Winston Tower in Winston-Salem. Truist Center
The Truist Center is a 47-story, skyscraper in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The city's third tallest building, it is located along North Tryon Street. It was opened on November 14, 2002 it was the city's second tallest building, and was known as the "Hearst Tower" until 2019. The structure is composed of a 32-story tower resting atop a 15-floor podium. During Bank of America's occupancy in the building located in the podium was a three-story trading facility designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and operated by Bank of America. South Tryon Square
South Tryon Square is a development consisting of two 14-story high-rises in Charlotte, North Carolina. The first building, at 201 South Tryon, was opened in 1961 as the Barclays American; from its second renovation, in 1999, the facade was changed to the current gray and green granite with green glass and ornamental metal. The second building, at 237 South Tryon, was opened in 2001 as a hotel branded Courtyard by Marriott and houses the 698-space parking garage. Blumenthal Performing Arts (also NC Blumenthal Center and NCBPAC) is located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It opened in 1992 and is named in honor of the people of the state of North Carolina and the Blumenthal Foundation established by I.D. Blumenthal who founded RSC Brands, the largest private donor to the capital campaign. The idea for the center dates back to the late 1970s.
