Ouroube SC Aleppo
Ouroube Sports Club () ( hy, Ուրուբե) is a Syrian sports club based in Aleppo, best known for their football team and basketball teams (men and women). Founded in 1923, Ouroube is the oldest sports organization in Syria. The club is part of the Antranik Youth Association, which is a sports program of the AGBU organization. In general, 5 types of sports are being practiced by the club. History The club was founded as al-Ahd al-Jadid () in 1923 by Armenian refugees and survivors of the Armenian genocide. Two minor sport clubs -Istiqlal () and al-Mish'al ()- were also founded by the Armenians of Aleppo in 1930 and 1931 respectively. Al-Ahd al-Jadid and Istiqlal were specialized in football while al-Mish'al was a basketball club. Finally in 1971, the three clubs were merged into one sports organization to form the Ouroube Sports Club. Ri'ayet Al-Shabab Stadium
Ri'ayet al-Shabab Stadium ( ar, ملعب رعاية الشباب) is a multi-use stadium in the Syrian city of Aleppo. It was opened in 1965 and has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. Armenian Genocide
The Armenian genocide was the systematic destruction of the Armenian people and identity in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. Al-Yarmouk Sports Club () () is a Syrian sports club based in Aleppo, best known for their football. Founded in 1925, Al-Yarmouk is the 2nd oldest sports organization in Syria. The club have won the Syrian regions football championship for several times before the establishment of the official Syrian football league in 1966. They were the winners of the Syrian Cup in 1963–1964, being the only official achievement in the club's history. Between 1925–1946, Al-Yarmouk was known as Homenetmen Aleppo. In 1946, the name was changed to Al-Nadi As-Souri (Arabic: the Syrian Club) until 1971 when it was renamed Al-Yarmouk. The club play their home games at the 7 April Municipal Stadium. Syrian Cup
The Syrian Cup ( ar, سوريا) is Syria's premier knockout Cup tournament in men's football. It was first contested in 1959. Al-Ittihad SC has won the competition on 10 occasions. The final was first played in the 1960-61 season during the UAR era and won by Al-Majd SC. The tournament has been held annually since then except for the 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons. The Armenians in Syria are Syrian citizens of either full or partial Armenian descent. Syria and the surrounding areas have often served as a refuge for Armenians who fled from wars and persecutions such as the Armenian genocide.
