Open Source Seed Initiative
The Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) is an organization that developed and maintains a mechanism through which plant breeders can designate the new crop varieties they have bred as open source. This mechanism is advanced as an alternative to patent-protected seeds sold by large agriculture companies such as Monsanto or DuPont. OSSI is a U.S. based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization focusing on establishing a protected commons of open source varieties and on educational and outreach activities associated with the development of this open source seed commons and on seed rights and issues related to the control of seed. The OSSI was founded in 2012 by a group of plant breeders, farmers, and seed companies. The Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) is a U.S.-based 501(c)(6), non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the development and implementation of open-source software solutions within US Federal, state and municipal government agencies. The Organization of Serbian Students Abroad (OSSA; Serbian: Организација српских студената у иностранству; ОССИ) is an international, non-profit, non-governmental and apolitical organization founded by Serbian students in 1997. Since its founding, OSSA has helped Serbian students study abroad and assisted them in their return to Serbia via various national and international projects, with the goal of supporting and strengthening the community of Serbian students in the diaspora. Ossi (East Germans)
Ossi and Wessi ( – "easterner"; – "westerner") are the informal names that people in Germany call former citizens of East Germany and West Germany before re-unification (1945–1990). These names represent the lingering differences between the two pre-reunification cultures, and Germany's popular culture includes many Ossi-Wessi-jokes and clichés. While some people in Germany may consider these names insulting, others regard them as part of the German culture. There is also the name Besserwessi (''besser'' meaning "better") which is a pun on ''Besserwisser'' ("know-it-all") and thus indicates a Wessi who feels superior to Ossis. Rosa "Ossi" Reichert (25 December 1925 – 16 July 2006) was a German alpine skier. Her greatest victory was in the 1956 Winter Olympics giant slalom at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Germany's sole gold medal at these games (and Germany's first gold medal in Olympics after the Second World War). After having seriously injured an ankle in 1954, she was not expected to do well at these games. She also drew the #1 start position for the one-run event. Josefa „Putzi“ Frandl, who won the silver medal in the event, once stated that, "Ossi was disappointed to draw #1 as that was usually not a good position.
