Orta, Møre Og Romsdal
Orta is an island in Aukra Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island lies midway between the islands of Harøya and Gossa in the Harøyfjorden. There are ferry connections from Orta to Sandøya and Finnøya (in Ålesund Municipality) and to Gossa (in Aukra Municipality). On 1 January 2020, the island of Orta and the small surrounding islets were administratively transferred to the neighboring Aukra Municipality. Orte is a town, ''comune'', former Catholic bishopric and Latin titular see in the province of Viterbo, in the central Italian region of Lazio, located about north of Rome and about east of Viterbo. Geography Orte is situated in the Tiber valley on a high tuff cliff, encircled to North and East from a handle of the Tevere river. It is an important road and rail hub. History The Etruscans inhabited the area from the 6th century BC and called it Hurta, as testified by the findings in a necropolis nearby, now preserved in the Vatican Museums. Two major battles between Etruscans and Romans (310 and 283 BC) were fought nearby on the shores of the Vadimone lake. The Romans were victorious both times. Lake Orta
Lake Orta (Italian: ''Lago d’Orta'') is a lake in northern Italy, west of Lake Maggiore. It has been so named since the 16th century, but was previously called Lago di San Giulio, after Saint Julius (4th century), the patron saint of the region. Its southern end is about by rail to the northwest of the city of Novara (located on the main Turin-Milan line), while its northern end is about by rail south of the Gravellona-Toce railway station, itself located halfway between Ornavasso and Omegna. Its scenery is characteristically Italian, while San Giulio island has some picturesque buildings, and takes its name from the local saint, who lived in the 4th century. Orta Nova is a town and ''comune'' about from Foggia, in the region of Apulia, in southern Italy. It stretches to the southern part of the ''Tavoliere'' (Foggia's plain) on the right bank of the River Carapelle. The origins of the name "Orta" are rather uncertain, as it the word may indicate: "crooked-born", from the Latin ''ortus'', or "garden" from the Latin word ''hortus'', or also simply "East". History The Romans built a courier post in the area, previously a territory of the Daunians. In the early Middle Ages a hamlet, whose name is mentioned in a document dating back to 1184, was built on the ruins of the Roman post. Orta San Giulio is a town and ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin and about northwest of Novara. The town itself is built on a promontory which juts out from the eastern bank of Lake Orta close to Isola San Giulio, an island which also falls within the municipal boundaries. The ''frazione'' Legro stands on the hill which rises behind the promontory, Corconio is some further south, and again away from the lake, while Imola consists of a small number of dwellings between the two, but close to the lake on the road leading to Gozzano. Garcia de Orta (or Garcia d'Orta) (1501 – 1568) was a Sephardic Jewish physician, herbalist and naturalist of the Portuguese Renaissance, who worked primarily in the former Portuguese capital of Goa and the Bombay territory (Chaul, Bassein & Damaon) of Portuguese India. A pioneer of tropical medicine, pharmacognosy & ethnobotany, Garcia used an experimental approach to the identification and the use of herbal medicines, rather than the older approach of received knowledge (oral tradition). His most famous work is '' Colóquios dos simples e drogas da India'', a book on simples (herbs used individually and not mixed with others) and drugs. Published in 1563, it is the earliest treatise on the medicinal and economic plants of India.
