Ordrupgaard is a state-owned art museum situated near Jægersborg Dyrehave, north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The museum houses one of Northern Europe's most considerable collections of Danish and French art from the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. History Ordrupgaard was originally a county home built between 1916 and 1918 by Wilhelm Hansen and his wife Henny Nathalie Soelberg Jensen (1870-1951). Wilhelm Peter Henning Hansen was the Danish general representative of the English-based Life Insurance Gresham for two decades. In 1896, he founded the Danish-based life insurance company Dansk Folkeforsikringsanstalt. Later, he also founded the internationally oriented insurance company Mundus. In 1905, Danish insurance company Hafnia appointed to their managing director. He held the office until 1936. Wilhelm Hansen (art Collector)
Wilhelm Peter Henning Hansen (27 November 1868 - 4 February 1936) was a Danish businessman and art collector, founder of the Ordrupgaard Art Museum north of Copenhagen. He made a fortune in the insurance industry as founder of the Danish insurance companies Dansk Folkeforsikringsanstalt and Mundus, and as managing director of Hafnia, another Danish insurance company, from 1905 until his death in 1936. Early life and education Hansen was born on 27 November 1868 in Copenhagen, the son of Niels Christian Adolph Hansen (1829-1918) and Josephine Marie Sophie Buntzen (1842-1914). He graduated from Efterslægtselskabets skole in 1884. He qualified for the College of Advanced Technology in 1886 and taught volapyk. Zaha Hadid
Dame Zaha Mohammad Hadid ( ar, زها حديد ''Zahā Ḥadīd''; 31 October 1950 – 31 March 2016) was an Iraqi-British architect, artist and designer, recognised as a major figure in architecture of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Finn Juhl
Finn Juhl (30 January 1912 – 17 May 1989) was a Danish architect, interior and industrial designer, most known for his furniture design. He was one of the leading figures in the creation of Danish design in the 1940s and he was the designer who introduced Danish modern to America. Biography Early life and education Finn Juhl was born on 30 January 1912 to an authoritarian father who was a textile wholesaler representing several English, Scottish and Swiss textile manufacturers in Denmark, and a mother who died shortly after he was born. Théodore Duret (20 January 1838, Saintes – 16 January 1927, Paris) was a French journalist, author and art critic. He was one of the first advocates of Courbet, Manet, and the Impressionists. One of his best known works is ''Critique d'Avant Garde (Paris, 1885)'' which was written in support of the Impressionist movement. Thorvald Bindesbøll (21 July 1846 – 27 August 1908) was a Danish National romantic architect, sculptor and ornamental artist. He designed the Dragon Fountain, Copenhagen (''Dragespringvandet'') and is perhaps best known as the creator of the Carlsberg beer label, which has remained unchanged since it was introduced. Peter Hansen (painter)
Peter Marius Hansen (13 May 1868, Faaborg – 6 October 1928, Faaborg) was a Danish painter who became one of the ''Fynboerne'' or "Funen Painters" group living and working on the island of Funen. Biography Hansen attended the Copenhagen Technical School before studying under Kristian Zahrtmann at the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler (1884–1890). His travels included the Netherlands (1892 and 1909), and several periods in Italy from 1899 where he was in Civita d'Antino with Zahrtmann (1904) and in Pompei with Theodor Philipsen (1919–21). He also travelled to Belgium and Paris in 1909. His eldest son, David Shane Hansen (1888-1909) would become one of the leading organizers of the 1909 general strike in Barcelona, Spain. He was killed by military forces July 27, 1909. Peter Hansen would comment that his son had become a great martyr in the rising Spanish Anarchist movement that was sweeping Spain.
