Orangeville Ice Crushers
The Orangeville Ice Crushers were a junior ice hockey team based in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada. They played in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Orangeville Americans were announced in the spring of 2011 with the roster to be composed of only American players. On September 12, 2011, the Americans played their first game at home against the Bradford Rattlers. The Rattlers won the game 5–2. During this game, the first Americans' goal was scored by 16-year-old Dominic Poya from Chicago. On September 19, the Americans won their first game 7–2 at home against the Shelburne Red Wings. On January 1, 2015, the club announced that RCR Entertainment had become the new team owners. The new ownership then renamed the team to the Orangeville Ice Crushers. On November 15, 2016, three of the team's owners were arrested for growing and distributing marijuana including the head coach CJ Schneider. Orangeville, Ontario
Orangeville (Canada 2016 Census 28,900) is a town in south-central Ontario, Canada, and the seat of Dufferin County. History The first patent of land was issued to Ezekiel Benson, a land surveyor, on August 7, 1820. That was followed by land issued to Alan Robinet in 1822. In 1863, Orangeville was named after Orange Lawrence, a businessman born in Connecticut in 1796 who owned several mills in the village. As a young man, he moved to Canada and settled in Halton County. During Mackenzie's rebellion in 1837, he was a captain in the militia. Lawrence purchased the land that became Orangeville from Robert Hughson. He settled in the area in 1844 and established a mille. The post office dates from 1851. Orange Lawrence committed suicide December 15, 1861. In 1873, the Act of Incorporation was passed and Orangeville was given town status on January 1, 1874. The New Tecumseth Civics are a Canadian Junior ice hockey team based in Alliston, Ontario. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). History The Alliston Coyotes joined the GMHL in spring 2013. The Coyotes played their first game, at home, on September 12, 2013. Hosting the Toronto Attack, the Coyotes lost 4-2. The first goal in team history was scored by Gordy Bonnel 18 seconds into the second period of play. Bruno Novotny played the first game in net, making 44 saves in the effort. The Almaguin Spartans are a Canada, Canadian junior ice hockey, junior ice hockey team based in South River, Ontario. They play in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League (GMHL). They were originally the Mattawa Voyageurs of Mattawa, Ontario. History The Voyageurs were announced as a team in spring 2011. On September 16, 2011, the team played its first game, at home, against the Bobcaygeon Bucks. The Voyageurs lost the game in a shootout 5–4. On September 18, at home again, the Voyageurs picked up their first win, 5–4 in overtime over the Algoma Avalanche. In July 2014, the team was approved for relocation to South River, Ontario, where they became the Almaguin Spartans.
