Daphne Oram
Daphne Blake Oram (31 December 1925 – 5 January 2003) was a British composer and electronic musician. She was one of the first British composers to produce electronic sound, and was an early practitioner of musique concrète in the UK. As a co-founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, she was central to the development of British electronic music. Her uncredited scoring work on the 1961 film '' The Innocents'' helped to pioneer the electronic soundtrack. Oram was the creator of the Oramics technique for creating electronic sounds using drawn sound. Besides being a musical innovator, she was the first woman to independently direct and set up a personal electronic music studio, and the first woman to design and construct an electronic musical instrument. In her book ''An Individual Note of Music, Sound and Electronics'' (1971) she explored philosophical themes related to the physics of sound. Matthew Oram
Sir Matthew Henry Oram (2 June 1885 – 22 January 1969) was a New Zealand politician of the National Party. He was the 13th Speaker of the House of Representatives, from 1950 to 1957. Early life Oram was born in 1885 at Christchurch. His mother was May Eltham, originally from Hobart in Tasmania. His father, Matthew Henry Oram, died three months before Matthew Oram's birth. His formal education started at age 12, as he went to live with his aunt in Wellington after his mother's death. He attended Wellington College (1898–1904), followed by Victoria University of Wellington (1905–1911). Neil R. G. Oram is a British musician, poet, artist and playwright. He is known for his 10-play cycle, ''The Warp'', directed by Ken Campbell. Soho, jazz, art and poetry career In Africa, Oram met musician Michael Gibbs (composer), Mike Gibbs. He played double bass in the ''Mike Gibbs Quintet'' with Gibbs playing piano, vibes and trombone. A post-concert epiphany where a voice repeatedly told him "Je suis un poet!" led him to take up writing. Oram returned to Britain in 1958 where he ran a jazz café called ''The House of Sam Widges'' at 8 D'Arblay Street in Soho, London. Tara Oram (born April 28, 1984) is a Canadian country music recording artist and TV personality. She was a top six finalist on the fifth season of '' Canadian Idol'' in 2007. Jacob David Philip Oram (born 28 July 1978) is a former New Zealand international cricketer, who played all forms of the game for 10 years. He was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. His ability with both bat and ball made him a regular member in the New Zealand international sides. Usually batting in the middle to lower order, Oram's bowling has been more successful in the shorter format—reaching as high as 5 in the ICC ODI Player Rankings. Dame Sarah Elizabeth Oram, (26 December 1860 – 26 June 1946) became a senior member of the Army Nursing Service (ANS) and Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS), and served as Principal Matron, Nursing Inspector in the QAIMNS, and was attached to the British Expeditionary Force, France, 1914–1915 and subsequently as Acting Matron-in-Chief, QAIMNS, Eastern Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, 1915–1919 during the First World War. Steve Oram
Stephen John Oram is an English actor, comedian, writer, and filmmaker. He is known for his role in the 2012 film ''Sightseers'', which he also co-wrote. Life and career Oram was born in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England. He started as a character comedian on the comedy circuit and performed several comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe with comedy partner Tom Meeten during the early 2000s. He also appeared at Ealing Live, a comedy night at Ealing Studios, where he met and started working with Alice Lowe. William Oram
William Oram (Born circa 1711, died 1777) was an English painter and architect. Life Oram was educated as an architect, and, through the patronage of Sir Edward Walpole, obtained the position of master-carpenter to the Board of Works. He designed a triumphal arch for the coronation of George III of Great Britain, of which an engraving was published. Oram also devoted much time to landscape-painting in the style of Gaspar Poussin. Oram was generally known as "Old Oram", to distinguish him from his son. He died on 17 March 1777, leaving a widow and a son, Edward Oram ( fl. 1770–1800), also a landscape-painter. Works Thomas James Mulvany's opinion was that Oram painted in the style of John Wootton, and had probably been his pupil. He also produced watercolour drawings, in the manner of Richard Wilson. Kenneth Cyril Oram AKC (3 March 1919 – 7 January 2001) was an Anglican clergyman who served as Dean of Kimberley and of Grahamstown before his elevation to the episcopacy as Bishop of Grahamstown, 1974 to 1987. Gerard Oram
Gerard ("Gerry") Oram is a notable British cultural and social historian, with a particular interest in the First World War. He was a researcher at the University of Birmingham and the University of Swansea, before going on to teach at the Open University. He lectures at Swansea University teaching on a number of modules including ''Nazi Occupied Europe'' and ''the First World War''.
