Ontario Highway 522
Secondary Highway 522, commonly referred to as Highway 522, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The highway is in length, connecting Highway 69 near Cranberry with Highway 11 at the community of Trout Creek. Highway 522 serves as the only link between these two routes south of Highway 17 and north of Highway 124. It is often used to access Grundy Lake Provincial Park, a popular camping area for northbound travellers. Highway 522 was established between Loring and Trout Creek alongside many other secondary highways in 1956. It was extended to the Pickerel River in 1965, but did not connect with Highway 69 until the mid-1970s. It was fully paved by 1980. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is the provincial ministry of the Government of Ontario that is responsible for transport infrastructure and related law in Ontario. The ministry traces its roots back over a century to the 1890s, when the province began training Provincial Road Building Instructors. In 1916, the Department of Public Highways of Ontario (DPHO) was formed and tasked with establishing a network of provincial highways. The first was designated in 1918, and by the summer of 1925, sixteen highways were numbered. In the mid-1920s, a new Department of Northern Development (DND) was created to manage infrastructure improvements in northern Ontario; it merged with the Department of Highways of Ontario (DHO) on April 1, 1937. Gurd Township, Ontario
Gurd Township is an historical geographic township in central Ontario, Canada, in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District. It was first surveyed in and was named after Robert Sinclair Gurd, a businessman and one-time mayor of Sarnia. In 1970, Gurd was annexed by the incorporated (Township municipality of) Nipissing. The township was shaped like an "L" wrapping around Nipissing. It was bounded on the north and northwest by Patterson Township on the west by Pringle Township, on the east and northeast by Nipissing, on the east by South Himsworth Township and on the south by Machar Township. It included the community of Hotham and part of Commanda. When it was annexed, Gurd had a population of 260 while Nipissing had 550. Today, the population is approximately 300 (419 including the nearby community of Alsace). Restoule
Restoule is a community and designated place in geographic Patterson Township in the Centre Unorganized Part of Parry Sound District in Central Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the Restoule River between Commanda Lake, and Restoule Lake and is part of the Almaguin Highlands region. Restoule has a local services board that covers the main community of Restoule and the small communities of Carr and Farley's Corners in neighbouring geographic Pringle Township. Along with the nearby communities of Loring and Port Loring and other smaller hamlets, the area promotes itself as the Loring-Restoule tourist area. Restoule is located south of Lake Nipissing, and north of Ontario's famous cottage country. Despite being north of this area, Restoule is a major centre for cottages, as is the entire Loring-Restoule region. Loring, Port Loring And District, Ontario
Loring, Port Loring and District is a local services board in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Parry Sound District, and by extension, the Almaguin Highlands region. The board administers services in the geographic townships of Blair, East Mills and Wilson and parts of the geographic townships of Hardy, McConkey and Pringle, including the communities of Arnstein, Bear Valley, Ess Narrows Landing, Fleming's Landing, Golden Valley, Loring, Port Loring and Spring Creek. The ghost town of Lost Channel is also located within the board's jurisdictional area. Seagull Lake (Ontario)
The Seagull Lake is sub-coastal saline lake fed by a marine spring located in the locality of Yanerbie on the western side of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia within the boundaries of the Sceale Bay Conservation Park. It lies about south of Streaky Bay and north of Port Lincoln. Description The sub-coastal lake was reported in 2010 as being "dominated by Zostera and Ruppia marine seagrasses". There are grassed sand-dunes on the west between the lake and the bay. On the east the lake is bordered by about a kilometre of whipstick mallee and paperbarks, before a series of ephemeral saline wetlands. The surrounds retain much native vegetation, especially samphire and halophytic shrubland. The threatened Beaded Samphire and West Coast Mintbush are found at the lake.
