One Hundred Thousand Dollars
''One Hundred Thousand Dollars'' (Italian: ''Centomila dollari'') is a 1940 Italian " white-telephones" comedy film directed by Mario Camerini and starring Assia Noris, Amedeo Nazzari and Lauro Gazzolo.Gundle p.169 It was shot at the Palatino Studios in Rome. The film's sets were designed by the art director Fulvio Jacchia. It was part of the traditional of White Telephone comedies, popular during the era. Synopsis An American millionaire staying at a Budapest hotel falls in love with the telephone operator working there. When she refuses his advances because she already has a fiancée, he offers her a hundred thousand dollars to have dinner with him. Although she refuses, when her family find out the amount they pressure her to accept his offer. Mario Camerini
Mario Camerini (6 February 1895 – 4 February 1981) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. The cousin of Augusto Genina, he made the most well-known films in Italy during the 1930s, most of them comedies starring Vittorio De Sica. He directed about 50 films till 1972, including ''Ulysses'' with American stars Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn, one of the first Europe/U.S.A. film coproductions. He died in 1981 in Gardone Rivera, Italy. Emilio Cardi Cigoli (18 November 1909 – 7 November 1980) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Biography Cigoli was born in Livorno to actress Giovanna Cigoli. His grandfather worked as a silent film actor. He began his career on stage at the age of 18 under the guidance of Alfredo De Sanctis and later did work for the EIAR. Cigoli appeared in more than 40 films and 20 television shows between 1935 and 1980, mostly in supporting roles.
