Oncidium Picturatum
''Oncidium'', abbreviated as Onc. in the horticultural trade, is a genus that contains about 330 species of orchids from the subtribe Oncidiinae of the orchid family (Orchidaceae). As presently conceived (May 2014), it is distributed across much of South America, Central America, Mexico and the West Indies, with one species ''(O. ensatum)'' extending into Florida. Common names for plants in this genus include dancing-lady orchid and golden shower orchid. In 2008, Oxfords Annals of Botany labeled the ''Oncidium'' alliance "grossly polyphyletic." Oncidium Altissimum
''Oncidium altissimum'', Wydler's dancing-lady orchid, is a species of orchid native to the West Indies (Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles), with an 18th-Century citation from Jamaica. This name should not be confused with the illegitimate homonym ''Oncidium altissimum'' Lindl. 1833, now considered a synonym of '' O. baueri'' native to South America. The true ''Oncidium altissimum'' was first described in 1760 by Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin with the name ''Epidendrum altissimum'', citing Jamaica as the origin of the specimen he was describing .
