"Obsessions" is the second single from the album '' A New Morning'' by Suede, released on 18 November 2002 through Columbia Records. Background Though the single was another disappointment on the charts, reaching only 29 on the UK Singles Chart, the song is considered a favourite from this era among fans. The single had various producers: "Obsessions", "Cool Thing" and "ABC Song" were produced by Stephen Street, "Instant Sunshine" was produced by Suede and Alex Silva, "UFO" was produced by Suede and Cameron Craig, "Rainy Day Girl" was produced by Suede and Sean Genockey while "Hard Candy" was produced by Tony Hoffer. The up-tempo song, whose lyrics focus on a relationship is somewhat reminiscent of Suede's biggest selling single "Trash". ''A New Morning'' is the fifth studio album by English alternative rock band Suede, released in September 2002. By the time the album was released, public interest in the band had waned, as shown by the poor charting of both the album and singles. Despite this, however, the album received moderate praise from critics. It is the only Suede album not to be released in the US. It was the last studio album released by the band before their seven-year hiatus and reunion in 2010. Before recording took place, keyboardist and guitarist Neil Codling left the band due to his health concern, and later was replaced by former Strangelove guitarist, Alex Lee. As Codling returned to the band for their 2010 reunion, this is their only studio album to have featured Lee. Suede (also known in the US as The London Suede) are an English rock band formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bass player Mat Osman. Drawing inspiration from glam rock and post-punk, Suede were dubbed "The Best New Band in Britain" by ''Melody Maker'' in 1992, and attracted much attention from the British music press. The following year their debut album '' Suede'' went to the top of the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years. "Positivity" is the first single from the album '' A New Morning'' by Suede, released on 16 September 2002 through Columbia Records. Although it received mixed reviews from critics and fans, the song became one of the band's final hit singles, reaching number one in Denmark, number 12 in Spain, number 15 in Finland and Norway, and number 16 in their native United Kingdom. Background The single is a big departure from the sleazy rock characteristic of the previous two albums, and has a far more warm and acoustic sound to it. "Attitude" is a song by Suede, released on 6 October 2003 through Columbia Records. It would be the group's final single before disbanding in late 2003. "Attitude" peaked at number 14 on the UK Singles Chart as a double A-side with "Golden Gun", becoming the group's highest-charting single since " She's in Fashion" in 1999. It also reached the top 20 in Denmark and Spain and peaked at number 50 in Ireland. Some critics viewed the single as an improvement from the group's 2002 album '' A New Morning'', which was considered to be a disappointing album. ''The Best of Suede'' is a compilation album by English alternative rock band Suede, released on 1 November 2010. Overview The compilation spans two discs and it is a mix of singles, album tracks and B-sides compiled by lead singer Brett Anderson. Disc one includes all of the band's singles excluding " Positivity" and " Attitude". Disc two includes album tracks from the band's first three albums as well as seven B-sides from disc one of '' Sci-Fi Lullabies''. Both Anderson and former guitarist Bernard Butler were involved in the remastering of the tracks with Chris Potter. The cover artwork is designed by Elizabeth Peyton. Unlike previous hits compilation ''Singles'', this best-of collection was fully endorsed by the band. Richard Oakes (guitarist)
Richard John Oakes (born 1 October 1976) is an English musician and songwriter, best known as the guitarist, occasional pianist, backing vocalist and co-songwriter of the English band Suede. Early life Richard Oakes was born in Perivale, West London, and grew up in the Parkstone area of Poole, Dorset in southwestern England. He first started playing when he came across a Spanish guitar that his sister owned. The album that initially influenced him to pursue a career in music was ''The Story of the Clash, Volume 1'', which he heard when he was 12. Prior to joining Suede, Oakes played in a band called "TED" along with his friends Peter Field (vocals) and Colin Forbes (Rhythm guitar). Echobelly are a British rock band, debuting in 1994 with their album '' Everyone's Got One''. They were often compared to Blondie and The Smiths; Morrissey becoming a fan of the group. The most prominent part of Echobelly's success formula was vocalist Sonya Madan, who was also the group's lyricist. Born in Delhi, India, before moving to England at the age of two, Madan had an unusual background for a pop star. Alex Lee (born 16 March 1970) is an English musician. He has played guitar and keyboards for Goldfrapp, Massive Attack, Suede, Placebo, Strangelove and The Blue Aeroplanes amongst others. Simon Gilbert (born 23 May 1965) is an English drummer and member of the English band Suede, one of the 'Big Four' Britpop bands of the 1990s, along with Oasis, Blur and Pulp. Gilbert is the third-longest member of Suede, and along with founders Brett Anderson and Mat Osman appear on every Suede album. Biography Gilbert was initially drummer for English punk band Dead to the World. By June 1990 he was working at the University of London Union (ULU) alongside Ricky Gervais, who was also managing the then unknown and unsigned Suede. After Gervais played him a demo, Gilbert asked to audition as the band were relying on a drum machine at the time. Neil John Codling (born 5 December 1973) is an English musician and songwriter, best known as the keyboardist, rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist and co-songwriter for the alternative rock band Suede.
