Orsa Spelmän
Orsa Spelmän is a folk music ( Spelman) sextet from Orsa in Sweden. In 1987, the former ABBA member Benny Andersson and Orsa Spelmän began a musical partnership with the recording of the album Klinga mina klockor. In 2001 the group became part of Benny Anderssons orkester (BAO). In 2006, member Kalle Moraeus was awarded Povel Ramel Baron Povel Karl Henric Ramel (; 1 June 1922 – 5 June 2007) was a Swedish entertainer. Ramel was a singer, pianist, vaudeville artist, author and a novelty song composer. His style was characterized by imaginative wit, both verbal and musical ...s ''Karamelodiktstipendium''. Orsa Spelmän have so far released four albums, ''Orsa Spelmän'' (1988), ''Fiolin Min'' (1990), ''Ödra'' (1998) and ''Orsa nästa'' (2006), and appear on several records together with ''Benny Anderssons Orkester''. Orsa, Sweden
Orsa () is a locality and the seat of Orsa Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden, with 5,308 inhabitants (2010). It is located in the northern part of lake Siljan, about north of the town Mora. Inlandsbanan and European route E45 run through the town and the railroad Bollnäs-Orsa connects. Nature The southern parts of Orsa are characterized by the Siljan Ring, a ring of lakes and rivers in northern Dalarna formed by the major meteorite strike 365 million years ago. In central Orsa, at the outflow of river Oreälven a sand bank has been built up, enjoyed by thousands of tourists and residents of Orsa. Spelman (music)
A spelman () is a player of Swedish folk music. The term has also the same meaning for Norwegian folk music, and corresponds directly to the term ''spillemand'' in Danish traditional music. Less often spelmän may be folk musicians from other Nordic countries, from other European countries, from non-European countries, and even musicians in other genres. The meaning of the Swedish word spelman is very similar to that of the English "fiddler," except that it is not tied to a specific instrument. Because of the commonality of the fiddle in Swedish folk music, the word is often translated as fiddler in any case. Technically, the actual Swedish word for fiddler would be "fiolspelman" (fiddle spelman). The other common translation of this word is folk musician. The problem here is that the Swedish word "folkmusiker," meaning folk musician, was invented explicitly in opposition to the older word "spelman." Benny Anderssons orkester (also known as BAO, Benny Andersson Band) is a Sweden, Swedish band, with Benny Andersson as musical leader and composer. The band was formed in mid-2001 by 16 people, some from Orsa Spelmän, and Helen Sjöholm and since 2004 Tommy Körberg as singers. The name literally means "Benny Andersson's orchestra".
