Oregon Trail (1945 Film)
''Oregon Trail'' is a 1945 American Western film directed by Thomas Carr and written by Betty Burbridge. The film stars Sunset Carson, Peggy Stewart, Frank Jaquet, John Merton, Mary Carr and Si Jenks. The film was released on July 14, 1945, by Republic Pictures. Plot After the Harvey Dawson gang robs a Union Pacific train of fifty thousand dollars in gold bullion, railroad detective Sunset Carson goes undercover to infiltrate the gang. To help establish Sunset's cover as the outlaw Jim Parker, the Union Pacific's chief detective chases him off a train and through the streets of a small western town. Sunset's escape is abetted by the lovely Jill Layton (Peggy Stewart), who was amused by Sunset during the train ride. Thomas Carr (director)
Thomas Howard Carr (July 4, 1907 - April 23, 1997) was an American actor and film director of Hollywood films and television programs. Often billed as "Tommy Carr", he later adopted his more formal "Thomas Carr" birth name as his billing name. Biography Carr was born into an acting family on July 4, 1907 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father was the actor William Carr and his mother was the actress Mary Carr. Thomas Carr followed the family profession, and in 1915 began acting in silent films. From 1915 through 1953, Carr played small supporting roles in a number of low budget Hollywood films, but Carr's star as an actor did not rise. In 1945, he turned to directing, and from 1945 through 1951 Carr directed numerous B movies for Hollywood's Poverty Row. Most of Carr's films were Westerns, but in 1948 he was co-director (along with Spencer Gordon Bennet) of the live-action ''Superman'' serial. Si Jenks
Si Jenks (born Howard Hansell Jenkins; September 23, 1876 – January 6, 1970) was an American actor. He was involved in 224 films in a career spanning nearly two decades in vaudeville and films. His best known appearances include '' The Village Blacksmith'', '' The Rider of the Law'', ''Oregon Trail'', '' The Cowboy Star'', '' Zorro's Black Whip'' and '' The Great Train Robbery''. Early life Jenks was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on September 23, 1876, to parents John and Catherine Jenkins. As a young boy, Jenks would enjoy watching his local champion baseball team. Tom London (born Leonard T. Clapman; August 24, 1889 – December 5, 1963) was an American actor who played frequently in B-Westerns.
