The Omega China Tour was a China-based men's professional golf tour that ran from 2005 to 2009. History The tour was created to encourage the development players who intended to move up to the Asian Tour or other major international tours, and also to help accelerate the development of golf in the People's Republic of China, following the sports reintroduction to the country in the 1980s, having been absent during the early communist era. Launched by the China Golf Association in 2005, the tour began as the China Tour, with four three-day tournaments, each with a minimum purse of (or ). Zhang Lianwei
Zhang Lianwei (; born 2 May 1965) is a Chinese professional golfer. Zhang was the first golfer from the People's Republic of China to achieve substantial success on the international professional circuit. In January 2003 he became the first Chinese golfer to win on the European Tour, and the following year was the first to compete in the Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships. Early life Zhang was born in Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. The People's Republic of China's first golf course opened in 1984, and Zhang took up the game soon afterwards. He worked as a caddie and won the China Amateur Open Championship three times. Professional career In 1994, Zhang turned professional. Early in his career, Zhang won a number of smaller tournaments around Asia, in China, Malaysia and Thailand. Kurt Barnes
Kurt Barnes (born 25 May 1981) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life and amateur career Barnes was born in Muswellbrook, New South Wales. He had a successful amateur career which included victories in the 2002 Australian Amateur, the 2003 Riversdale Cup, which he won with a record 22 under par total, and the 2003 New Zealand Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Professional career In 2003, Barnes turned professional. Shortly thereafter, he joined the PGA Tour of Australasia. In 2009, Barnes became the first Australian to win on the Omega China Tour, when he claimed victory in the Sofitel Zhongshan IGC Open. He went on to head that tour's Order of Merit that season. China Tour
The China Tour is a China-based men's professional golf tour run by the China Golf Association. History From 2014 to 2016 the tour was organised in conjunction with the PGA Tour China. In 2017 the two tours split and ran a separate schedule of events. Tournaments as part of the PGA Tour gained world ranking points from 2014 to 2016 but not in 2017. Events regained OWGR status in 2018. Since 2017, the Order of Merit winner has earnt a European Tour card for the following season. In January 2024, it was announced by the European Tour that they had formalised their strategic alliance with the China Golf Association. The agreement would see the leading player on the China Tour Order of Merit earn status to play on the European Tour (DP World Tour) for the following season (which had already been in place since 2017).
