Olga Knudsen
Olga Knudsen (1865–1947) was a Danish politician and women's rights activist who represented Venstre or the Liberal Party of Denmark. In 1918, she was one of the first five women to be elected to the Landsting. The others were Nina Bang, Marie Christensen, Marie Hjelmer and Inger Gautier Schmidt. Biography Born on 29 June 1865 in Følle, Syddjurs Municipality, in the east of Jutland, Olga Knudsen was the daughter of Jens Elsbert Knudsen (1826–1901), who managed a grocery business, and Julie Vilhelmine Rønberg (1828–1888). Unlike her two brothers who went to university, she helped in the home, particularly after her mother's death in 1888. Her brother Ivar gained fame for his development of the diesel engine while Morten was a physician in the army. It was through Morten's wife Thora that Olga Knudsen became interested in the women's movement. Elna Munch
Elna Munch née Sarauw (13 June 1871 – 17 November 1945) was a Danish feminist and politician, (Danish Social Liberal Party). She was the co-founder of the Landsforbundet for Kvinders Valgret ( National Association for Women's Suffrage) or LKV (1907), the more radical of the two main Danish suffrage movements, and alongside Johanne Rambusch its leading member. Biography She was born to forester Conrad August Nicolaus Sarauw and Betzy Wilhelmine Hansen and was the younger sister of Clara Tybjerg (1864–1941). She was educated at the N. Zahle's School, studied mathematics at the Copenhagen University and became the second woman mathematician to graduate from a university after Thyra Eibe. She was a teacher at the school of Marie Kruse in 1900-1918 and married the politician Peter Rochegune Munch in 1902. Landsforbundet For Kvinders Valgret
Landsforbundet for Kvinders Valgret or LKV (National Association for Women's Suffrage), was a Danish association for women's suffrage, active from 1907 until 1915. As the Danish Women's Society was initially not strongly committed to women's suffrage, in 1898, a new organization was established: Danske Kvindeforeningers Valgretsudvalg, specifically to support voting rights for women. From 1904, it was known as Valgretsforbundet. In 1907, it merged with Landsforbundet for Kvinders Valgret. Landsforbundet for Kvinders Valgret originated from the local women's association Politisk Kvindeforening. In 1906, Københavns Kvindevalgretsforening was founded, and in 1907, the name was changed to Landsforbundet for Kvinders Valgret. It was founded by Elna Munch, Johanne Rambusch and Marie Hjelmer. Ivar Knudsen
Ivar Peter Bagger Knudsen (1 April 1861 – 23 March 1920) was a Danish engineer. As the director of Burmeister & Wain (B&W), Knudsen led the development of the , the biggest, most advanced diesel-powered vessel of its time. Early life Knudsen was born to Jens Elsbert Knudsen (1826–1901), a manager of a grocery firm, and Julie Vilhelmine Rønberg (1828–88). He trained to be a mechanic in Aarhus and worked in this profession until 1882 when he went to Copenhagen to study at the Technical University of Denmark. After finishing his studies in 1887 he was involved in the design of the fortifications of Copenhagen. He then worked as a mechanical engineer for the electric utility of Copenhagen. Engineering career In 1895 he joined B&W as chief mechanical engineer. He was promoted to Director of the engine department in 1897 where he started a comprehensive modernization.
