Octavius Douglas-Hamilton
Maj.-Gen. Octavius Douglas-Hamilton (1821-1904) was the son of Lieutenant Augustus Barrington Price Anne Powell Hamilton and Maria Catherine Hyde, a grandson of Admiral Charles Powell Hamilton and Lucretia Prosser. He was born on 15 February 1821 in Boulogne, France. The family surname was changed to Douglas-Hamilton in 1875. Octavius Douglas-Hamilton was commissioned in 1839 in 2nd Bengal European Cavalry. He served in the Punjab Campaign in 1848 and 1849, and at the Siege of Delhi in 1857, and the actions at Hindon and Basil-Ka-Serai.. He retired in 1875 and was granted the honorary rank of Major General. He was married to Katharine Augusta Westenra Macleod (b. ca 1822, d. 30 Nov 1902), dau. of Capt Donald Macleod CB RN. They were the parents of Major Angus Falconer Douglas-Hamilton, V.C. He died on 14 Aug 1904 at 46 Marylands Road, Paddington, London, England. Charles Powell Hamilton
Admiral Charles Powell Hamilton (26 December 1747 – 12 March 1825) was an officer of the Royal Navy, who saw service during the American War of Independence, and the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, eventually rising to the rank of admiral. Family and early life Hamilton was born on 26 December 1747, the third and youngest son of Lord Anne Hamilton, who was the third and youngest son of James Hamilton, 4th Duke of Hamilton.; his middle name was from his mother, Anna Charlotta Maria Powell. He joined the navy and saw some service during the American War of Independence. After the Action of 13 May 1779 in which he commanded HMS ''Fortune'', he was promoted to the rank of post-captain on 18 May 1779 and to command of the frigate HMS ''Apollo''. Angus Douglas-Hamilton
Lieutenant-Colonel Angus Falconar Douglas-Hamilton VC (20 August 1863 – 26 September 1915) was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Life Born at Brighton in 1863, he was the son of Major General Octavius Douglas-Hamilton and Katherine Macleod, and a great-great-grandson of Lt.Gen.James Douglas-Hamilton, 4th Duke of Hamilton and 1st Duke of Brandon. Douglas-Hamilton was educated at Foster's Naval Preparatory School, and latterly at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Having been commissioned into the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders in 1884, he served in the Sudan, Gibraltar, Malta, South Africa, North China, and India, attaining the rank of major by 1901.
