Theodor Oberländer
Theodor Oberländer (1 May 1905 – 4 May 1998) was an Ostforschung scientist and German Nazi official and politician, who after the Second World War served as Federal Minister for Displaced Persons, Refugees and Victims of War in West Germany from 1953 to 1960, and as a Member of the Bundestag from 1953 to 1961 and from 1963 to 1965. Oberländer earned a doctorate in agriculture in 1929 and a second doctorate in economics in 1930. He spent time in the Soviet Union during the 1920s and early 1930s, including as an employee of DRUSAG (), a German company involved in developing Soviet agriculture in cooperation with the Soviet government. Subsequently, he became active in '' Ostforschung'', area studies of the Soviet Union, the Baltic states, Poland and other countries of Eastern and Central Europe, advocating elimination of Jews and subjugation of Polish people in Poland, which he characterised in his writings as having "eight million inhabitants too many". Adolf Oberländer
Adam Adolf Oberländer (1 October 1845, Regensburg29 May 1923, Munich) was a German caricaturist, illustrator, cartoonist and early comics artist. Biography He was born at Regensburg, but after 1847 lived in Munich. He studied painting at the Munich Academy under Karl von Piloty beginning in 1861, but found that historical painting did not suit his particular talent. He soon discovered that the true expression of his genius was in the field of caricature and comic drawings, revealed in a humorous cartoon published in 1863 in the ''Fliegende Blätter''. He joined the staff of the ''Fliegende Blätter'', to which he became a constant contributor and leading artist. Carl Ferdinand Oberländer
Carl Ferdinand Oberländer (24 January 1805 – 23 June 1866) was a baker and confectioner in Greiz who collected natural history specimens from around the world. His ornithological collections consisting of about 1400 specimens was obtained by the Waldenburg Natural History Museum. Oberländer was born in Greiz where he became a baker and confectioner. He was a close friend of Karl Theodor Liebe with whom he took an interest in birds. In 1840 he put up his collections for sale in the ''Leipziger Zeitung,'' the sale having been done because of some accidental arsenic poisoning from the preserved birds. The collection had 925 specimens representing 250 species from the Palearctic and about 32 exotic species. Its sale was brokered by Professor Johann Heinrich Gottfried Apetz to be obtained by the city of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Klagenfurt. An earlier collection was acquired by Prince Otto V, Duke of Brunswick, Otto Viktor I in Waldenburg according to Felix Heller. References ...
