Nova Corps
The Nova Corps is a fictional intergalactic military/police force appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Marv Wolfman, the Corps first appeared in '' Fantastic Four'' #205 (April 1979). They have since appeared in numerous other Marvel stories set in outer space and media adaptations, such as the animated TV series ''The Super Hero Squad Show'' and the 2014 film ''Guardians of the Galaxy'', the latter of which is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Publication history The team was created by writer Marv Wolfman. Richard Rider, the first member, appeared in ''The Man Called Nova'' #1 (September 1976). The Corps first appeared in '' Fantastic Four'' #205 (April 1979) Fictional organization history The Nova Corps were originally a space military and exploration group for the planet Xandar. Nova (Richard Rider) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character appeared historically as the star of his own series, and at other times, as a supporting character in team books such as '' The New Warriors''. He is a member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps, for which he gained superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight and resistance to injury. Publication history The character was created in 1966 by writer Marv Wolfman in issue #3 of his fanzine, ''Super Adventures''. Then known as The Star, he was an alien doctor named Denteen who found a spaceship containing pills which gave him a different superhuman power every five minutes. In issue #6, Wolfman and writer Len Wein reimagined the character, now a prisoner named Kraken Roo who turns out to become the superhero Black Nova. Nova (Sam Alexander) is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character, a space-faring member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps, was created in 2011 by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness, based on the original Nova Richard Rider. Publication history Sam Alexander first appeared in ''Marvel Point One'' #1 (November 2011), created by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness. The character was named after Loeb's son, who died after a three-year battle with bone cancer at the age of 17. Nova (Frankie Raye) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Frankie Raye was portrayed by Beau Garrett in the 2007 film '' Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer''. Publication history The character first appeared as Frankie Raye in ''Fantastic Four'' #164 (November 1975) and was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist George Pérez. After several years as a minor supporting character, she became a herald of Galactus and assumed the name "Nova" in ''Fantastic Four'' #244 (July 1982) by John Byrne. The character was killed in ''Silver Surfer'' #75 (December 1992). Writer Kathryn Immonen and artist Tonči Zonjić revived Frankie Raye in the ''Heralds'' limited series in 2010.
