Pop-up Notification
The pop-up notification (or toast, passive pop-up, snackbar, desktop notification, notification bubble, or simply notification) is a graphical control element that communicates certain events to the user without forcing them to react to this notification immediately, unlike conventional pop-up windows. Desktop notifications usually disappear automatically after a short amount of time. Often their content is then stored in some widget that allows the users to access past notifications at a more convenient time. On mobile devices, a push notification system is typically used. Support on different systems In Windows 2000, Microsoft introduced balloon help-like passive pop-up notifications, tied to the notification area of the task bar. Notifications get queued when user is away or screensaver is running, and get shown when the user resumes activity. They remain on screen for nine seconds while fading out if the user appears to ignore them. Microsoft also adopted similar notif ...

Notification (Holy See)
A notification by the Holy See is an official announcement by a department of the Holy See, the leadership of the Catholic Church in Rome. The term used in Latin is ''notitiae'', and in Italian it is ''notificazione''. English translations most frequently use the similar word "notification", but sometimes use the word "note" or, as is more common for similar announcements by English-speaking entities, the word "notice". A notification is issued "by one with executive authority, which usually serves as a reminder of something contained in the law, or explains more clearly the meaning of a law". Notifications are one of the many forms of documents issued by the Holy See. Apart from the more solemn ''declarations'' on matters such as doctrine, religious freedom or Christian education, and the legislative, judicial and administrative ''decrees'' supplementing or implementing a law, there are ''instructions'', ''circular letters'', ''directories'', ''notifications'', ''statutes'', ''no ...

Notification Center
Notification Center is a feature in iOS and macOS that provides an overview of alerts from applications. It displays notifications until the user completes an associated action, rather than requiring instant resolution. Users may choose what applications appear in Notification Center, and how they are handled. Initially released with iOS 5 in October 2011, Notification Center was made available on Macs as part of OS X Mountain Lion in July 2012. Features Notification Center was released in iOS 5 to replace the previous system for dealing with push and local notifications. Instead of interrupting the user with an alert, Notification Center instead displays a banner at the top of the screen. This allows the user to continue using their device, and disappears after a set period of time. All previous notifications are collated into the Notification Center panel, which can be displayed in iOS by dragging down from the status bar, and in macOS by clicking on the notification center ...

Emergency Action Notification
An Emergency Action Notification ( SAME code: EAN) is the national activation of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and is used to alert the residents of the United States of a national or global emergency such as a nuclear war or any other mass casualty situation. Emergency Action Notifications can only be activated by the president of the United States or a designated representative thereof, such as the vice president. The Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) also carried the Emergency Action Notification. No president has ever activated the alert aside from testing. Operation EAN messages are treated similarly to other EAS messages. When a message is received, the receiver is to open an audio channel to the originating source until the End of Message (EOM) tones are received. After the EOM is received, the station is then allowed to resume normal programming. If a school were suddenly closed for the day, students or parents could be told not come to school, or told to report to an alternate location. American Airlines can notify passengers by cellphone two hours before a flight's departure with information on the flight's status and gate number. When notification services are used for emergency notification, they are often called Emergency Mass Notification Services (EMNS). Notification services and emergency notification services can provide a wide range of options, including: *Notifications may be by e-mail, telephone, fax, text messages, etc. *Identical messages may be broadcast, or the messages may be personalized. *The notification service equipment may be owned by the sender, or may owned by a service provider. *A message may, or may not require ...

Partner Notification
Partner notification is the practice of notifying the sexual partners of a person, known as the "index case", who has been newly diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection that they may have been exposed to the infection. It is a kind of contact tracing and is considered a partner service. Practice In the UK, partner notification has not played a significant part in HIV prevention and testing efforts despite proving to be highly effective in diagnosing people with HIV. Some audits show up to 37% of partners traced and tested through partner notification were newly diagnosed HIV positive as a result. Notifying sexual partners of people diagnosed with HIV is usually voluntary but a healthcare worker may decide to contact partners without consent if they feel there is a risk of HIV transmission. This is permitted under General Medical Council guidance. A 2002 survey in the United States showed that with regards to STIs, healthcare providers conduct screenings with less frequenc ...

In information technology, a notification system is a combination of software and hardware that provides a means of delivering a message to a set of recipients. It commonly shows activity related to an account. Such systems constitute an important aspect of modern Web applications. For example, a notification system can send an e-mail announcing when a computer network will be down for a scheduled maintenance. The complexity of the notification system may vary. Complicated notification systems are used by businesses to reach critical employees. Emergency notification systems may take advantage of modern information technologies. Governments use them to inform people of upcoming danger. In mobile phones and smartphones, dedicated hardware such as a notification LED is sometimes included to deliver messages or notify users.
