North Athens (regional Unit)
North Athens ( el, Βόρειος Τομέας Αθηνών) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Attica. The regional unit covers the northeast-central part of the agglomeration of Athens. Administration As a part of the 2011 Kallikratis government reform, the regional unit North Athens was created out of part of the former Athens Prefecture. It is subdivided into 12 municipalities. The 74 regional units of Greece ( el, περιφερειακές ενότητες, ; sing. , ) are the country's Seventy-four second-level Administrative divisions of Greece, administrative units. They are divisions of the country's 13 Modern regions of Greece, regions, and are further divided into municipalities of Greece, municipalities. They were introduced as part of the Kallikratis Plan, Kallikratis administrative reform on 1 January 2011 and are comparable in area and, in the mainland, coterminous with the 'pre-Kallikratis' prefectures of Greece. Chalandri
Chalandri ( el, Χαλάνδρι, Ancient Greek: Φλύα, ''Phlya'') is a suburb in the northern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. It is a municipality of the Attica region. Geography Chalandri is a suburb in Northern Athens, around from the centre; its location corresponds with one of the 10 ancient demes (boroughs) of Athens, known as Phlya ( el, Φλύα). The municipality has an area of 10.805 km2. Chalandri was a small village until the rapid expansion of Athens during the 1960s and 1970s. Its built-up area is now continuous with those of the neighbouring suburbs Filothei, Marousi, Vrilissia, Agia Paraskevi, Cholargos, Neo Psychiko and Psychiko. Nevertheless, it has still a high ratio of open green areas per citizen in the Athens agglomeration. Several embassies are based in Chalandri. Vrilissia
Vrilissia ( el, Βριλήσσια) is a suburban municipality of the North Athens regional unit, in the Attica region. It is located in the Athens basin, at the southwestern foot of the Penteli Mountain. At the 2011 census, the municipality had 30,741 residents. Geography The administrative limits of the municipality extend from the Chalandri gully up to foothills of the Penteli, known as Patima and Koufos Hills. Penteli ( el, Πεντέλη) is a village and a municipality in the North Athens regional unit, Attica, Greece. It belongs to the Athens rural area. It takes its name from Mount Pentelicus. Nea Ionia
Nea Ionia ( el, Νέα Ιωνία, meaning New Ionia) is a northern suburb of Athens, Greece, and a municipality of the Attica region. It was named after Ionia, the region in Anatolia from which many Greeks migrated in the 1920s as a part of the Population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Irakleio ( el, Ηράκλειο) is a suburb in the northeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece, and a municipality of the Attica region.
