Noordenveld
Noordenveld () is a municipality in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. Population centres Water Board Noordenveld Noordenveld is also the name of a former Water Board, which had its office in Roden. Water Board Noordenveld arose from the Water Boards of Leutingewolde (1866-1967), De Zuidermaden (1914-1967), De Weehorst (1917-1967), De Peizer en Eeldermaden (1928-1984) and Matsloot-Roderwolde (1933-1984). In 1995, Water Board Noordenveld was merged into Water Board Noorderzijlvest, based in Onderdendam. Norg
Norg is a village in the northeastern Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Noordenveld, Drenthe. It used to be an independent municipality until 1998. Norg is home to two windmills. History Norg is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Middle Ages on higher grounds. It was first mentioned in 1149 as Nurch. The etymology of the name is unknown. Norg contains six communal pastures around which houses were built. The Dutch Reformed Church is a 13th century Romanesque church on the Church Brink, which has a saddle-roof tower. Norg developed during the peat exploitation in the area. In 1931, "Vacantie en Rustoord Den en Duin" planned to built a large holiday resort in the forest near the village. Even though their plans did not come to fruition, several smaller resorts have been established in Norg. Alteveer, Noordenveld
Alteveer is a hamlet in the Netherlands and it is part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe. Alteveer is not a statistical entity, but does have its own postal code. It was first mentioned in the 1850 and means "all too far", because it was not well connected to the outside world. Alteveer is located outside the built-up area, and is home to an estimated 100 people. Veenhuizen, Noordenveld
Veenhuizen () is a village with around 800 inhabitants in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. In the early 19th century, a reform housing colony for the poor and homeless was established in Veenhuizen by the Society of Benevolence. In the late 19th century, the complex was turned into a penal colony. The village became freely accessible in 1984 and has been part of the municipality of Noordenveld since 1998. The National Prison Museum is located here. Matsloot is a hamlet in the Netherlands, and is divided over the municipalities Groningen in province Groningen, and Noordenveld in Drenthe Drenthe () is a province of the Netherlands located in the northeastern part of the country. Langelo is a village located in the Netherlands, part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe. Langelo is an ''esdorp __NOTOC__ An ''Angerdorf'' (plural: ''Angerdörfer'') is a type of village that is characterised by the houses and farmsteads being laid out around a central grassed area, the ''anger'' (from the Old High German ''angar'' =pasture or grassy place ...'' which developed in the middle ages on the higher grounds. It contains two triangular communal pastures. It first appeared in 1225 as Rodolphus de Langele and means "long forest". In 1840, it was home to 125 people. Nieuw-Roden is a village in the Netherlands and is part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe. During the 19th century, peat to the west of Roden was excavated, and a new settlement appeared. Originally, it contained sod house The sod house or soddy was an often used alternative to the log cabin during frontier settlement of the Great Plains of Canada and the United States in the 1800s and early 1900s. Nietap
Nietap is a village in the Netherlands and is part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe. History The ''borg'' (castle) Tedema was built near the current village. It was probably built by Johan Thedema, ''burgemeester'' of the city of Groningen around 1450 to excerpt control over the border area. The castle was demolished around 1730. In 1600, the settlement was first mentioned as "Jan Tedema ... thoe Roen" (Jan Tedema towards Roden). In 1685, it first appeared as "Nye Tap" meaning "New Inn". Nietap was located on the road towards Leek in Groningen. The village was officially founded in 1693. The location near the border of Drenthe, Groningen and Friesland attracted retail to Nietap. The economy was also based on smuggling. It was home to 189 people in 1840. During the 20th century, it started to grow due to improved roads. Huis Ter Heide, Drenthe
Huis ter Heide is a hamlet in the Netherlands and is part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe. Huis ter Helde started as an inn from 1777 near the sluice. During the 18th century, the heath was cultivated and some farms appeared around the inn. In 1840, the population of Huis ter Heide was 40 people. The inn was rebuilt in 1886, and is currently in use as a farm. Een-West is a hamlet in the Netherlands. It is part of the Noordenveld municipality in Drenthe.
