Nirmal Udhas is a ghazal singer and the second brother of the Udhas brothers, the others being Manhar Udhas and Pankaj Udhas. Ghazal
The ''ghazal'' ( ar, غَزَل, bn, গজল, Hindi-Urdu: /, fa, غزل, az, qəzəl, tr, gazel, tm, gazal, uz, gʻazal, gu, ગઝલ) is a form of amatory poem or ode, originating in Arabic poetry. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain. The ghazal form is ancient, tracing its origins to 7th-century Arabic poetry. The ghazal spread into South Asia in the 12th century due to the influence of Sufi mystics and the courts of the new Islamic Sultanate, and is now most prominently a form of poetry of many languages of the Indian subcontinent and Turkey. A ghazal commonly consists of five to fifteen couplets, which are independent, but are linked – abstractly, in their theme; and more strictly in their poetic form. Manhar Udhas
Manhar Udhas is a Hindi and Gujarati language singer and Bollywood playback singer. Early life Manhar Udhas is the eldest son of Keshubhai Udhas and Jituben Udhas, and the elder brother of singers Pankaj Udhas and Nirmal Udhas. He completed his mechanical engineering training in Gujarat and moved to Mumbai in the late 1960s to look for a job. He was interested in music since childhood. His brother-in-law, who was making Gujarati film in Mumbai, introduced him to Music Director Kalyanji Anandji. Udhas used to hang around Kalyanji Anandji to help them in song recording. Once singer Mukesh was not immediately available. So it was decided to dub song in the voice of Udhas and later on Mukesh would sing over it. The song was 'aap se hum ko bichchade huye ek zamana beet gaya' for 1969 film ''Vishwas''. Pankaj Udhas
Pankaj Udhas (born 17 May 1951) is an Indian ghazal and playback singer. He started his career with a release of a ghazal album titled ''Aahat'' in 1980 and subsequently recorded many hits like ''Mukarar'' in 1981, ''Tarrannum'' in 1982, ''Mehfil'' in 1983, ''Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall'' in 1984, ''Nayaab'' in 1985 and ''Aafreen'' in 1986. After his success as a ghazal singer, he was invited to appear and sing for a film by Mahesh Bhatt, ''Naam''. Udhas rose to further fame for singing in the 1986 film '' Naam'', in which his song "Chitthi Aayee Hai" (the letter has arrived) became an instant hit. He did playback singing for many Hindi films after that. Albums and live concerts around the globe brought him fame as a singer. In 2006, Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award. His brothers Nirmal Udhas and Manhar Udhas are also singers.
