Nigel Colman (RAF Officer)
Air Vice Marshal Nigel James Colman, (born 18 January 1971) is a senior officer of the Royal Air Force who has served as Commander of Joint Helicopter Command since March 2020. RAF career Colman was commissioned into the Royal Air Force (RAF) on 20 June 1991. As officer commanding No. 78 Squadron he saw action in Iraq and then in Afghanistan. He became station commander at RAF Benson as well as Puma and Merlin force commander in October 2012. He saw the Merlins leave the force in October 2014. Colman went on to be Deputy Director of Military Support in July 2015, followed by a move to become the Head of Military Strategic Effects at the Ministry of Defence in April 2018 and Commander of Joint Helicopter Command in March 2020. Royal Air Force
The Royal Air Force (RAF) is the United Kingdom's air and space force. It was formed towards the end of the First World War on 1 April 1918, becoming the first independent air force in the world, by regrouping the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). Following the Allied victory over the Central Powers in 1918, the RAF emerged as the largest air force in the world at the time. Since its formation, the RAF has taken a significant role in British military history. In particular, it played a large part in the Second World War where it fought its most famous campaign, the Battle of Britain. Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma
The Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma is a four-bladed, twin-engined medium transport/utility helicopter that was designed and originally produced by the French aerospace manufacturer Sud Aviation. It is capable of carrying up to 20 passengers as well as a variety of cargoes, either internally or externally; numerous armaments have also been outfitted to some helicopters. The Puma was originally developed as an all-new design during the mid-1960s in response to a French Army requirement for a medium-sized all-weather helicopter. On 15 April 1965, the first prototype Puma made its maiden flight; the first production helicopter flew during September 1968. Deliveries to the French Army commenced in early 1969; the type quickly proved itself to be a commercial success. Jonathan Pentreath
Rear Admiral Jonathan Patrick Pentreath, (born 2 March 1966) is a retired senior officer of the Royal Navy. He commanded 845 Naval Air Squadron from 2001 to 2003, including during the Battle of Al Faw in the Iraq War, and later commanded Commando Helicopter Force (2009–11) and Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton (2015–17). He was Commander Joint Helicopter Command from April 2017 until March 2020 when he retired from the Royal Navy. Early life and education Pentreath was born on 2 March 1966 in Plymstock, Devon, England. He father was Captain David Pentreath, a decorated Royal Navy officer.
