Nicholas Wolterstorff
Nicholas Paul Wolterstorff (born January 21, 1932) is an American philosopher and theologian. He is currently Noah Porter Professor Emeritus Philosophical Theology at Yale University. A prolific writer with wide-ranging philosophical and theological interests, he has written books on aesthetics, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, metaphysics, and philosophy of education. In ''Faith and Rationality,'' Wolterstorff, Alvin Plantinga, and William Alston developed and expanded upon a view of religious epistemology that has come to be known as Reformed epistemology. He also helped to establish the journal '' Faith and Philosophy'' and the Society of Christian Philosophers. Kendall Lewis Walton (born 1939) is an American philosopher, the Emeritus Charles Stevenson Collegiate Professor of Philosophy and Professor of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. David Claerbaut
David Claerbaut (born February 27, 1946) is a professor, coach, and athletic administrator, psychotherapist, and author. He earned a PhD from the Loyola University of Chicago. Early years Claerbaut was born in Tomahawk, Wisconsin and grew up in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. He began his career as an inner city school teacher in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but soon moved on to North Park University in Chicago. There he held a dual appointment in sociology and psychology also serving as Chair of the Sociology/Anthropology Department. Reformed Epistemology
In the philosophy of religion, Reformed epistemology is a school of philosophical thought concerning the nature of knowledge (epistemology) as it applies to religious beliefs. The central proposition of Reformed epistemology is that beliefs can be justified by more than evidence alone, contrary to the positions of evidentialism, which argues that while belief other than through evidence may be beneficial, it violates some epistemic duty. Phillip Cary
Phillip S. Cary (born 1958) is an American philosopher who serves as a professor at Eastern University with a concentration on Augustine of Hippo and the history of the reception of Augustine's thought. Born on June 10, 1958, he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Yale University under Nicholas Wolterstorff. He has written a number of books, including three published by Oxford University Press. Additionally, he has provided lectures on the history of Christian theology as well as on major figures in ecclesiastical history for The Teaching Company.
