Newtype USA
is a monthly magazine publication originating from Japan, covering anime (and to a lesser extent, tokusatsu, manga, Japanese science fiction, seiyuu, and video games). It was launched by publishing company Kadokawa Shoten on March 8, 1985, with its April issue, and has since seen regular release on the 10th of every month in its home country. ''Newtype Korea'' is published in Korea. Spin-off publications of ''Newtype'' also exist in Japan, such as Newtype Hero/Newtype the Live (which are dedicated to tokusatsu) and ''NewWORDS'' (which is geared toward a more mature adult market), as well as numerous limited-run versions (such as ''Clamp Newtype''). The name of the magazine comes from the "Newtypes" in the Universal Century timeline of the '' Gundam'' series, specifically ''Mobile Suit Gundam'' (1979) and its sequel '' Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam'' (1985). Anime
is hand-drawn and computer-generated animation originating from Japan. Outside of Japan and in English, ''anime'' refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. However, in Japan and in Japanese, (a term derived from a shortening of the English word ''animation'') describes all animated works, regardless of style or origin. Animation produced outside of Japan with similar style to Japanese animation is commonly referred to as anime-influenced animation. The earliest commercial Japanese animations date to 1917. Chrono Crusade
''Chrono Crusade'', originally known in Japan as , due to a typo, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Moriyama. It was originally published by Kadokawa Shoten in ''Comic Dragon'', then a special issue of the ''Dragon Magazine''. A 24-episode anime television series by Gonzo based on the manga ran from 2003 to 2004 on Fuji TV. The series was released in North America by ADV Manga and ADV Films, titled ''Chrono Crusade''. The Five Star Stories
is a mecha manga series created by Mamoru Nagano, building on his work on the anime series '' Heavy Metal L-Gaim''. The story takes place cluster of four major planetary systems. Amaterasu, the immortal emperor of the Grees Kingdom on the planet Delta Belune, is destined to rule the whole Joker System. Mamoru Nagano
is a Japanese manga artist, animator, and mecha and character designer. Born in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, he is noted for his work with anime studio Sunrise. He is married to voice actress Maria Kawamura. Career Mamoru Nagano made his professional debut in 1984 working with Yoshiyuki Tomino on the TV series '' Heavy Metal L-Gaim''. ''Fool for the City'', his first manga, came out in 1985 but it was 1986 that brought ''The Five Star Stories'', which is still in production today. Nagano founded Toys Press, Inc. to publish much of his work. His work in ''Heavy Metal L-Gaim'' introducing mecha with armor plates that appeared to fit loosely over an internal skeleton. Tankōbon
is the Japanese term for a book that is not part of an anthology or corpus. In modern Japanese, the term is most often used in reference to individual volumes of a manga series: most series first appear as individual chapters in a weekly or monthly manga anthology with other works before being published as volumes containing several chapters each. Monica Rial
Monica Jean Rial (born October 5, 1975) is an American voice actress and ADR script writer affiliated with Funimation and Seraphim Digital/ Sentai Filmworks. She provides voices for English language versions of Japanese anime films and television series. Career Rial's first voice-over role was some walla in the 1999 dub of '' Martian Successor Nadesico''. In an interview with Otaku News, Rial said she had to talk for two minutes straight as folks in a crowd telling the Jovians to go home. Jonathan Clements
Jonathan Michael Clements (born 9 July 1971) is a British author and scriptwriter. His non-fiction works include biographies of Confucius, Koxinga and Qin Shi Huang, as well as monthly opinion columns for ''Neo'' magazine. He is also the co-author of encyclopedias of anime and Japanese television dramas. Background Clements speaks both Chinese and Japanese, and many of his works relate to East Asia. Mahiro Maeda (前田 真宏 ''Maeda Mahiro''; born March 14, 1963) is a Japanese anime director, character designer, and animator. Helen McCarthy in ''500 Essential Anime Movies'' called him "one of the most imaginative visualists in anime".
