The Netherlands participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song " Lights and Shadows" written by Rory de Kievit and Rick Vol. The song is performed by the group O'G3NE, who was internally selected by the Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS to represent the Netherlands at the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. O'G3NE's appointment as the Dutch representative was announced on 29 October 2016, while the song, "Lights and Shadows", was presented to the public on 3 March 2017. The Netherlands was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 11 May 2017. Performing during the show in position 6, "Lights and Shadows" was announced among the top 10 entries of the second semi-final and therefore qualified to compete in the final on 13 May. OG3NE ( ) is a Dutch three-piece music group. The group is made up of sisters Lisa, Amy, and Shelley Vol, the latter two of the three being fraternal twins. In 2007, they represented the Netherlands in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song " Adem in, adem uit" ("Breathe In, Breathe Out"). On 19 December 2014, they were announced as the winners of season five of ''The Voice of Holland'', earning a recording contract with EMI. They became the first trio to win the competition on any international version of ''The Voice''. The Eurovision Song Contest 2004 was the 49th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. ''The Voice of Holland'', also known as ''TVOH'', is a Dutch reality TV singing competition, that became a near global TV format franchise, created by media tycoon John de Mol and musician Roel van Velzen, in the Netherlands airing on RTL 4.
