Netball At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
Netball is one of the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham, England. This will be the seventh staging of netball at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998, and the second staging within England specifically. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 29 July and 7 August 2022. Schedule The competition schedule for the netball tournament is as follows: Detailed fixtures were first released on 12 November 2021, then updated with the full complement of qualified teams on 4 March 2022. Venue The tournament was originally set to be held in Coventry Arena. However, the sport's heightened profile in light of England winning the 2018 tournament led to the National Exhibition Centre being chosen instead. Five other sports - badminton, boxing, para powerlifting, table tennis, and weightlifting - will also take place in the venue. National Exhibition Centre
The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is an exhibition centre located in Marston Green, Solihull, West Midlands, England. It is near junction 6 of the M42 motorway, and is adjacent to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International railway station. It was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1976. History The NEC was originally going to be built adjacent to the M1 motorway (junction 21) near Leicester but it was turned down by Leicestershire County Council with claims that "The big shows won't move away from London". The building was designed by Edward Mills. In November 1971, the Secretary of State for the Environment granted outline planning approval for the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. Mackay launched the site in 2005, originally as insidethegames.com, following the announcement that London has been chosen to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. Jhaniele Fowler
Jhaniele Fowler (formerly known as Jhaniele Fowler-Reid; born 21 July 1989) is a professional Jamaican netball player and as of 2018 a member of the West Coast Fever in the Suncorp Super Netball League. Fowler also plays domestic netball in Jamaica for the Waulgrovians club, and has been a member of the Jamaica national netball team (the Sunshine Girls) since 2010. Stephanie Wood (born 28 November 1991), also known as Steph Wood, is an Australia netball international. Wood was a member of the Australia teams that won the silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and at the 2019 Netball World Cup. Between 2015 and 2016, Wood played for New South Wales Swifts in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017 she has played for Sunshine Coast Lightning in Suncorp Super Netball. Cara Koenen (born 27 February 1996) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning. Koenan was a foundation player at the Lightning ahead of the club's inaugural season in 2017. She has remained at the club since that time and was most recently re-signed for the 2020 season. Gretel Bueta (née Tippett; born 3 July 1993) is an Australian netball player and former basketball player. Basketball Bueta played for the Australian Institute of Sport in the Women's National Basketball League during the 2010/2011 season. She played half the season with the Logan Thunder in the 2011/2012 season and was named Rookie of the Year for WNBL in 2011 before pulling out due to glandular fever. Kiera Austin (born 26 August 1997) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, having previously playing for Giants Netball.
