Nels H. Smith
Nels Hansen Smith (August 27, 1884July 5, 1976) was an American politician who served as the List of Governors of Wyoming, 18th Governor of Wyoming from 1939 until 1943. He was a Republican Party (United States), Republican. Biography He was born on August 27, 1884, in Gayville, South Dakota, Gayville in the Dakota Territory to Denmark, Danish immigrants Margaret (née Larsen) and Peter Smith. Smith moved to Wyoming in 1907 and subsequently was elected to the Wyoming House of Representatives for the Fifteenth State Legislature. He lived in Crook County, Wyoming, Crook County. Leslie Andrew Miller
Leslie Andrew Miller (January 29, 1886September 29, 1970) was an American politician who served as the 17th governor of Wyoming from January 2, 1933, until January 2, 1939. He was a Democrat. Biography Miller was born in Junction City, Kansas on January 29, 1886. In 1892, his family moved to Wyoming. He served in the United States Marines from 1918 until 1919. He entered politics following his service and was elected to the Wyoming House of Representatives. He was elected 17th Governor of Wyoming. He took his oath and was sworn in on December 27, 1932, 6-days early. He took office on January 2, 1933. Governor Miller was re-elected in 1935 and he replaced hanging with the gas chamber for executions. In 1938, he was defeated by Nels H. Smith. Lester Hunt
Lester Callaway Hunt, Sr. (July 8, 1892June 19, 1954), was an American Democratic Party (United States), Democratic politician from the state of Wyoming. Hunt was the first to be elected to two consecutive terms as Wyoming's governor, serving as its List of Governors of Wyoming, 19th Governor from January 4, 1943, to January 3, 1949. In 1948, he was elected by an overwhelming margin to the U.S. Senate, and began his term on January 3, 1949. Hunt supported a number of federal social programs and advocated for federal support of low-cost health and dental insurance policies. He also supported a variety of programs proposed by the Eisenhower administration following the Republican landslide in the 1952 elections, including the abolition of racial segregation in the District of Columbia, and the expansion of Social Security. The 1942 Wyoming gubernatorial election took place on November 3, 1942. Incumbent Republican Governor Nels H. Smith ran for a second term as governor. After defeating several opponents in the Republican primary, he advanced to the general election, where he was opposed by Lester C. Hunt, the Wyoming Secretary of State and the Democratic nominee. The 1938 Wyoming gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 1938. Incumbent Democratic Governor Leslie A. Miller ran for re-election to his third term, and his second full term. Nels H. Smith, a former State Representative and former state highway commissioner, won a crowded Republican primary and advanced to the general election against Miller. Though Miller won his re-election campaign 1934 Wyoming gubernatorial election, four years earlier in a landslide, Smith was able to take advantage of the 1938 United States elections, nationwide Republican wave to defeat him in a landslide, winning 60% of the vote to Governor Miller's 40%. Salisbury () is a town situated in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. The town is the northwesternmost in the state of Connecticut; the Massachusetts-New York-Connecticut tri-state marker is located at the northwest corner of the town.
