National Repertory Orchestra
The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) is an American summer symphony orchestra that offers full fellowships to train young professional musicians for careers in music through performances, masterclasses and workshops. Based in Breckenridge, Colorado since 1993, its members, who range in age from 18 to 29, are selected from auditions held each year throughout the United States. NRO presents a summer music festival including two orchestral programs per week conducted by its Music Director, Michael Stern. The orchestra was founded in 1960 by cellist and conductor Walter Charles. Carl Topilow was Music Director from 1978 - 2020 and continues with the orchestra as the Music Advisor. The NRO was formerly known as the Blue Jeans Symphony based in Estes Park, Colorado, and later as the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra based in Evergreen, Colorado. Breckenridge, Colorado
The Town of Breckenridge is the home rule municipality that is the county seat and the most populous municipality of Summit County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 5,078 at the 2020 United States Census. Breckenridge is the principal town of the Breckenridge, CO Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town also has many part-time residents, as many people have vacation homes in the area. The town is located at the base of the Tenmile Range. Since ski trails were first cut in 1961, Breckenridge Ski Resort has made the town a popular destination for skiers. Jonathan Cohler
Jonathan Cohler (born June 19, 1959) is an American classical clarinetist, conductor, music educator and record producer. Early career Jonathan Cohler graduated from Harvard University in 1980 with a degree in physics. He studied clarinet with Pasquale Cardillo, Harold Wright, Karl Leister, Charles Neidich and Frank Martin. In 1978, he won the U.S. Components, Inc. Fellowship to the Tanglewood Music Center (then known as the Berkshire Music Center). He also played clarinet for the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra (now known as the National Repertory Orchestra) in 1979 under conductor Carl Topilow. He has performed at the International Clarinet Association's annual ClarinetFest (1994, 1997, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) and has appeared in the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. Phoebe Carrai
Phoebe Carrai (born October 15, 1955 in Boston) is an American cellist. Carrai studied at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she earned both her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. In 1979, Carrai undertook post-graduate studies in Historical Performance Practice with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. In 1983, Phoebe Carrai joined the chamber music ensemble Musica Antiqua Köln. She worked with them for the next ten years and during that time taught at the Hilversum Conservatory in the Netherlands. She now lives in the United States. She performs with the Arcadian Academy and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra (Nicholas McGegan); Ensemble Arion (Claire Guimond), Les Musiciens de Louvre ( Marc Minkowski) and the Handel and Haydn Society (Grant Llewellyn). Joseph Norman Alessi (born September 20, 1959) is an American classical trombonist with the New York Philharmonic. Life Joseph Norman Alessi was born in Detroit, Michigan and attended high school in San Rafael, California. His father, also named Joseph Alessi, was a professional trumpet player, and his mother, Maria (née Leone) sang in the Metropolitan Opera chorus. His younger brother Ralph Alessi is a jazz trumpeter. Displaying notable talent himself from an early age, Alessi graduated early from high school at age 16 and successfully auditioned to join the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.
