National Day Rally
The National Day Rally ( ms, Rapat Umum Hari Kebangsaan; ; ta, தேசிய தின பேரணி) is an annual message delivered by the prime minister of Singapore to the entire nation, on the first or second Sunday after the National Day on 9 August. A yearly event since 1966, the prime minister uses the rally to address the nation on its key challenges, as well as to announce the country's major policy changes, the economy, future plans and achievements. History The rally began in 1966 as a "private meeting" between the prime minister and grassroots leaders. The transcript was released to the media only two weeks later. ''The New Paper'' is a Singaporean newspaper in tabloid form. It was originally published as a "noon paper", but since 2016 has been published daily as a freesheet in the morning from 7 a.m. onwards. History First launched on 26 July 1988, by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), it had an average daily circulation of 101,600 in August 2010, according to SPH. In 1991, the paper organised the New Paper Big Walk, a mass-participation walking event. The event came to be held annually in Singapore. The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a think-tank that studies and generates public policy ideas in Singapore. Established in 1988, IPS became an autonomous research centre of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore in 2008. The East Coast Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency in the eastern area of Singapore.
