Nasolamia Velox
The whitenose shark (''Nasolamia velox'') is a species of shark of the family (biology), family Requiem shark, Carcharhinidae. The only member of the genus ''Nasolamia'', it is found in the tropical waters of the eastern Pacific Ocean between latitudes 31st parallel north, 31° N and 18th parallel south, 18° S, between depths of 15 to 200 m. It can grow up to a length of 1.5 m. The whitenose shark is viviparous, with 5 young in a litter, and a birth size around 53 cm. Leonard Joseph Victor Compagno is an international authority on shark taxonomy and the author of many scientific papers and books on the subject, best known of which is his 1984 catalogue of shark species produced for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Compagno was mentioned in the credits of the 1975 film '' Jaws'' along with the National Geographic Society.
