Naistenlahti Power Plant
Tampella (until 2002 known as Naistenlahti) is a neighbourhood in the northern part of the city center of Tampere, Finland. It consists of the old Tampella factory area, the Armonkallio residential area and the Naistenlahti harbor area. The neighboring parts of the internally heterogeneous district located on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi are Lapinniemi, Lappi, Osmonmäki, Tammela, Jussinkylä, Finlayson and Särkänniemi. The Naistenlahti Power Plant operates on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi in Tampella. The Vapriikki Museum Centre is also located in the district. Näsinneula View 12
Näsinneula (; ) is an observation tower in Tampere, Finland, overseeing Lake Näsijärvi. It was built in 1970–1971 and was designed by Pekka Ilveskoski. It is the tallest free-standing structure in Finland and at present the tallest observation tower in the Nordic countries at a height of . The tower opened in 1971 and is located in the Särkänniemi amusement park. There is a revolving restaurant in the tower above the ground; one revolution takes 45 minutes. The design of Näsinneula was inspired by the Space Needle in Seattle. The idea of a revolving restaurant was taken from the Puijo Tower, which is located in Kuopio, the city of North Savonia. The base of the tower is at about of elevation from lake Näsijärvi. There are two elevators, which were changed to new Kone elevators in 2020. Tampella
Oy Tampella Ab was a Finnish heavy industry manufacturer, a maker of paper machines, locomotives, military weaponry, as well as wood-based products such as packaging. The company was based mainly in the Naistenlahti district of the city of Tampere. Until 1963 the company was called Tampereen Pellava- ja Rauta-Teollisuus Osake-Yhtiö (The Flax and Iron Industry of Tampere Stock Company). In Swedish it was called Tammerfors Linne-&Jern-Manufakt.A.B.. In 1993 the company’s forest and packaging business was bought by Enso-Gutzeit Oy. Tampereen Pellava- ja Rautateollisuus Oy was a company based on the merger in 1861 of two factories - a linen mill and foundry - situated by the Tammerkoski rapids. Lapinniemi
Lapinniemi () is a district in the northern part of Tampere, Finland. It is located on a peninsula formed on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi. Neighboring parts of the city are Petsamo, Lappi and Tampella. It is about a kilometer from the city center of Tampere to Lapinniemi, but it takes about five minutes by bus through Tammela and 10 minutes to the Central Square. The cotton mill of Tampereen Puuvillateollisuus Oy, which manufactured fabrics and yarns, was completed in the Lapinniemi area in 1899 and was integrated into Tampella in 1934. Lappi, Tampere
Lappi is a district in Tampere, Finland, near the Lake Näsijärvi and the Kauppi's park area. About 700 people live there. When talking about Lappi, reference is usually made to the Lapinniemi district. The district is home to the Koukkuniemi's nursing home, which is one of the largest nursing homes in Europe. There are also yacht clubs in the area (e.g. Tampere Yacht Club) and a spa and apartments in an old factory building were completed for the 1990 housing fair. The Lappi district got its name from Lapinniemi, which piers Lake Näsijärvi. The name may refer to early Lappish settlement. Part of the Lappi district is called Käpylä, which refers to the first inhabitant of the area, August Käpynen, a worker who moved there in 1915. The town plan for Lappi was confirmed in 1933. Osmonmäki
Osmonmäki is a district in the center of Tampere, Finland. The immediate neighbors of the area are Tammela, Tampella, Lappi and Petsamo. There are apartment buildings in the area, but also hundred-year-old wooden buildings. In 2011, the district had 1,613 inhabitants. Tammela is a district in Tampere, Finland, located east of the city centre. Tammela was born since the 1870s as a working-class neighbourhood, today it is especially popular among the students of the nearby Tampere University. As of 2014, the population of Tammela was 5,646. Jussinkylä
Jussinkylä (also known as Juhannuskylä) is a neighbourhood in the city center of Tampere, Finland. It is located east of Tammerkoski and borders Satakunnankatu in the south. To the east and northeast, the district is bounded by a railway and to the northwest by Lapintie. The Erkkilä Bridge (''Erkkilän silta'') connects Jussinkylä to Tammela. The most significant landmarks in the area are Tampere Cathedral and Tampere Central Fire Station. Neighboring neighborhoods are Finlayson, Tampella and Kyttälä, from which the latter runs a route along the Tuomiokirkonkatu street. Finlayson (formerly known as Näsi) is a neighbourhood in the city center of Tampere, Finland, and as the name implies, it consists of the old factory area of Finlayson, as well as Näsinpuisto, the Mustanlahti harbor area and the residential blocks delimited by Hämeenpuisto and Satakunnankatu. To the east, the area borders Tammerkoski. Area attractions include Tallipiha and Finlayson Church. There are also three palace buildings in the district: Näsilinna (''Näsi Castle''), Finlayson Palace (''Finlaysonin palatsi'') and Pikkupalatsi (''Little Palace''). Särkänniemi (district)
Särkänniemi is a district of the city centre of Tampere, Finland, located on the shores of Lake Näsijärvi, north of the districts of Amuri and Finlayson. The most famous sights of the district are Näsinneula and Särkänniemi Amusement Park, but in addition to that, the district also houses the Haarla's old paper mill building. The Amuri railway stop has also ceased operations in Särkänniemi. The Särkänniemi district also includes the Siilinkari islet in Lake Näsijärvi. Särkänniemi is bordered on the south by Paasikivenkatu (formerly Paasikiventie), on the other side of which is the Amuri district, and on the west by the Santalahti district.
