NASL Final 1974
NASL Final 1974 was the championship match of the 1974 season, between the expansion Los Angeles Aztecs and the Miami Toros. The match was played on August 25, 1974 at the Orange Bowl, in Miami, Florida. The teams played to a, 3–3, draw, and after a short break the game moved directly to a penalty shoot-out. Los Angeles won the shoot-out, 5–3, and were crowned the 1974 champions. This was the second consecutive year that an expansion team won the NASL title Background Los Angeles Aztecs The Los Angeles Aztecs qualified for the playoffs by virtue of winning the Western Division with 110 points. The point total earned them a quarterfinal bye in the playoffs. The Miami Orange Bowl was an outdoor athletic stadium in Miami, Florida from 1937 until 2008. The stadium was located in the Little Havana neighborhood west of Greater Downtown Miami, Downtown Miami. Luis Marotte
Luis Marotte (born October 14, 1944) is an Uruguayan former footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Marotte played in the National Soccer League in 1969 with Toronto Hellas. The following season he played in the North American Soccer League with Rochester Lancers. In his debut season he assisted Rochester in securing the double (Northern Division & Soccer Bowl), and contributed a goal in the final series against Washington Darts. He re-signed with Rochester for the 1971 season, but failed to make an appearance due to contractual obligations with a Mexican club he played with. Roger Verdi (born Rajinder Singh Virdee on 4 February 1953) is an English retired professional footballer who spent his entire career in North America, making over 100 league appearances in the North American Soccer League. Ken Mallender
Kenneth Mallender (born 10 December 1943) is an English retired footballer who played during the 1960s and early 1970s. He played as a left-sided defender. Born in Thrybergh, South Yorkshire Mallender began his senior career in 1961 at Sheffield United where he remained until his move to Norwich City in the autumn of 1968. After a decade playing in the First and Second Divisions, Mallender dropped down into non-league football to play for Hereford United; one of the leading clubs in the Southern League. In doing so, he went part-time and secured a full-time job as a sales representative for Cadbury. Mallender's first season at Edgar Street saw him play in 72 out of 79 first team matches that season, including every match of Hereford's famous cup run. Ronnie Sharp (footballer)
Ronnie Sharp (born 30 January 1948) is a former professional footballer who played in the North American Soccer League and Mexican Primera División. Career Born in Scotland, Sharp began his football career with junior side Glenrothes. The winger played part-time with Scottish Second Division side Cowdenbeath from 1968 to 1973. Miami Toros' coach John Young scouted Sharp on a trip to Scotland, and he joined the NASL club in 1973. During the off-season, Sharp and teammates Warren Archibald and Steve David joined Mexican side San Luis for five weeks of the 1973–74 Mexican Primera División season. Douglas McMillan is a former Scottish-American soccer forward. He was both the 1973 American Soccer League Rookie of the Year and the 1974 North American Soccer League Rookie of the Year. Uruguay Gustavo Graffigna Banhoffer, also known as Uri Banhoffer or Yuri Banhoffer (14 January 1948 – 12 March 2021) was a Uruguayan footballer who played for clubs in Uruguay, Chile, the Netherlands and the United States.
