Nuuk
Nuuk (; , formerly ) is the capital and most populous city of Greenland, an autonomous territory in the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the territory's largest cultural and economic center. It is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2025, it had a population of 20,113more than a third of the territory's populationmaking it one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population. The city was founded in 1728 by the Danish-Norwegian missionary Hans Egede when he relocated from the earlier Hope Colony (), where he had arrived in 1721; the governor Claus Paarss was part of the relocation. The new colony was placed at the Inuit settlement of Nûk and was named ''Godthaab'' ("Good Hope"). "Nuuk" is the Greenlandic word for "cape" () and is commonly found in Greenlandic place names. Sermersooq
Sermersooq () is a municipality in Greenland, formed on 1 January 2009 from five previous, smaller municipalities. Its administrative seat is the city of Nuuk (formerly called Godthåb), the capital of Greenland, and it is the most populous municipality in the country, with 23,123 inhabitants as of January 2020. Old Nuuk
Old Nuuk may refer to several neighborhoods of Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. The Lutheran mission was originally based on Hope Island at the head of the fjord but was moved to the mainland and christened Godthaab by the royal governor Claus Paarss in 1728. Dotted with prefabricated, single-family houses, the neighborhood is also host to two of the oldest cemeteries and the Kalaaliaraq Market. Today, it is part of the Nuuk Centrum district, located in the southwestern part of the town, facing the Nuup Kangerlua fjord. Nuup Bussii
Nuup Bussii A/S is a bus company in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, providing public transport services for the city. As of 2014, Nuup Bussii had 31 employees, operating 16 buses with a distinct yellow color, as well as five other small vehicles. History Prior to the establishment of public services, the ground transport in the city was operated by private entrepreneurs. The volatility and alleged unreliability of the services prompted the former Nuuk Municipality to regulate the traffic, and establish a public transportation company, overseen by the municipal authorities. Nuup Bussii was then founded on 26 September 1980. In 2012 the buses transported more than 2 million passengers around the city of Nuuk.
